This is a Public Announcement! πŸ“£
πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯Please be fire aware out there - we have a dangerously high risk of wild fires in Pembrokeshire at the moment so No campfires or BBQs & remember to dispose of your cigarette butts responsibly (no flicking them out car windows into tinder dry hedges please !)
Thank you/diolch πŸ™πŸ’•πŸ’«βœ¨

🚨 The wildfire risk is now VERY HIGH 🚨

Conditions are exceptionally dry across Pembrokeshire. Just one spark can start a fire that spreads rapidly, threatening people, wildlife, habitats and some of our most precious landscapes.

If you are spending time outdoors:
πŸ”₯ Do not light any fires, including campfires
πŸ₯ͺ Do not use disposable or portable barbecues. Pack a picnic instead
πŸŽ† Do not set off fireworks or release sky lanterns
🚬 Extinguish ci******es fully and never discard them on the ground
♻️ Take all litter home with you
πŸ•οΈ Camp only where you have permission
⚠️ The risk is real. Please take exceptional care and do nothing that could start a fire.
☎️ If you see fire or smoke, call 999 immediately.
🌊🌱 Please help us protect our precious local area.

This follows two recent examples of close calls.

πŸ”₯ Firstly a couple having a campfire at Whitesands yesterday evening on the pebbles by the dunes & grass, taking selfies with the fire. There were already flying embers drifting in the air and they were about to place two cardboard pizza boxes on top when two locals asked them to put the fire out. They claimed not to know there was a risk and claimed ignorance. The fire was put out. This was an hour after the fire brigade had been down to put out another campfire. πŸš’

🚬 Then this morning two local business owners saw the rubbish bin outside City Hall on fire with very clear fresh glowing cigarette butts on the bin. They managed to put it out very quickly. πŸͺ£

Two examples of wonderful community members helping to prevent local fires.

We ask everyone to spread the word and remind both locals and visitors NOT to light any fires or use disposable or portable BBQs.

We know lots of responsible campsites have already put signs up and have banned campfires etc, but we ask others to do the same to prevent wildfires destroying swathes of local areas. 2,350 acres of countryside in Gwynedd have already been burnt to a cinder and other fires have taken place in Blaenavon in Torfaen, Presteigne in Powys, and Pentre Halkyn in Flintshire. Let's not add our local area to that list.

Some of the above information has been taken from the Pembrokeshire Coast post today. Please SHARE and spread the word as much as possible.
