Nahje, my client from the United States, has a beautiful love story with her fiancé.
She came to me with a very special request for her custom cheongsam gown, a gown designed to capture the memories, culture, and meaning behind their love story.
She wanted to commemorate the place where they got engaged: the breathtaking Yonaha Maehama Beach, located on Miyako Island in Okinawa, Japan.
To symbolize the union between husband and wife, she requested the embroidery of a dragon and phoenix — a timeless representation of harmony, strength, and eternal love.
She also chose hydrangeas and lilies to be embroidered into her cheongsam, as both are her favorite flowers and hold a special meaning to her heart.
Since her husband is Chinese and she is African, she wanted the gown to beautifully reflect the blending of their cultures.
The Chinese palace elements were incorporated into the design to honor and represent her husband’s Chinese heritage and traditions.
Every detail in this cheongsam tells a story, a story of love, culture, unity, and two souls coming together as one.
