We are incredibly sad to have to say that last week on the 28th of June, our beloved David died. Whilst he is at last free from the horrible disease that is dementia, I am sure this news will still hurt all those that knew David regardless of how well. So many emotions to process but many more fond memories to look back on and cherish.
I believe I can speak on behalf of all of us who had the privilege of working under David at W2 throughout the years that very few people are likely to have such a positive impact on our lives as David had. Boss, friend, mentor, confidant and inspiration, David was all of these things and more seemingly filling each role with ease accompanied by a warmth and charm that appears to be increasingly hard to come across these days.
Upon hearing of David’s passing I found myself digging out the email from the first time we had been in contact. I was 19, desperately looking to find work that I was actually passionate about, offering my skills and knowledge, which were somewhat limited at the time, for free, seeing it as an education into the industry that so fascinated me. Years later, David would always say that what struck him about my email was how well it was written and that the quality of that email was to some extent how I managed to get a job in W2 in the first place. Well, having unearthed this email for the first time in 11 years, I think it is fair to say David was being more than generous about its quality… perhaps he was able to sense my enthusiasm through the screen. After all, David epitomised enthusiasm and passion, it poured out of him, whether it be for fashion, art, blasting classical music, or even correcting my grammar when I used “seen” instead of “saw.” I don’t think there can be any doubt that David lived life to the fullest and what a life it was! From the inimitable Warehouse to W2 and everything in between, thank you for everything, David, you’ll be sorely missed.
For those who wish to pay their respects, David’s funeral will take place at 2:15pm Friday 24th of July at the Glasgow Crematorium 19 Tresta Road G23 5AA, followed by a wake at Willow Bank Bowling Club.
Much love, W2 x
