Here are some pictures of the finished AT-ST's that I thought I'd already uploaded.

I worked primarily on the bottom half, whilst my teammate, Peter Broadley worked on the top half (though we were both heavily involved with each other's halves). Though as the deadline drew closer, we realised that we'd need some help and thankfully Morris Fowler , Twitch Stevenson and Alan Kerr jumped in to help with painting and fine details.

The main 'head' is made from 0.5mm styrene and the legs are laser cut acrylic with styrene details.

Much better! After using car body filler and a lot of sanding, I finally have a much smoother version of the foot cover which I am very happy with.

As I've been doing a lot of vacuum forming recently, I was thinking of making a video on the basics and how it works, what do you think?

So the feet have been cut out of acrylic on the laser cutter, though I need to make a cover for them as they aren't flat.

My first thought was to make a positive mould out of tooling board and then vacuum form it. It turned out well, though the mould needs to be refined a lot to make it look right.

Unfortunately I didn't have much time to work on the AT-ST today, though I managed to get some time on the laser cutter to try out one of my personal CAD files, hope you like it :D .

Today I began work on the feet for the AT-ST, I had a basic idea on how I wanted to make them (after using the laser cutter, I never want to use anything else again :P ).

I quickly knocked up some plans on CAD and set to work with the laser cutter. After it had finished cutting (and a little clean up) I assembled the pieces and secured them in place with dichlo.

Today was an interesting one. I had a kit of parts sat out in front of me, just wondering how to attach them together and after about fifteen minutes of thinking, I had come up with a method.

As the pieces were already cleaned down, I didn't need to key the acrylic, so I got straight down to applying a solvent called Dichloromethane. The solvent bonds the plastic together at a molecular level, by melting the plastic. As it is important to keep the pieces lined up, I used a plastic rod through each hole as to avoid misalignment, then pushed the pieces together.

After the laser cutter had done it's job, Pete and I had a kit of parts to make four legs (two for each AT-ST). Though the laser cutter is very accurate, there was still a small amount of cleaning up to be done as the hot plastic gives off fumes which can mark the surface of the plastic. This took a surprisingly long amount of time, so assembling the legs will have to wait until tomorrow.
