When you go in the lions den of places after being called in to do a Big set up job in a place you've never been in before with machines like this that they normally have to send in Engineers from Germany over to do
Who are the only ones trained in these type of
Mega machines but they have not been working for nearly 12 months and after a Work Colleague/friend of mine who's a fitter called me in to Assist and to do the Technical side of the machines himself being a Top Class Fitter doing a months worth of the Engineering Side of upgrading the machines Gears/Shafts etc it's a great feeling when you know your called in because they havent had an Actual mechanic in there for the last 5-6 years in their 50 years of trading but everyone thinks they are a Sewing machine Mechanic/Technician
myself who's been in this trade for 37 years (Working for Amazing Companys like Lux-Lux, Ritz Ladies underwear/Clothing(Glossop)Hyfoam Caravan/Furnishings (Glossop),Lewing Ltd United/City and all the other Countries Football and fans Kits (Ringway industrial Estate Wythenshawe) ,John Flemming (Salford) Bed, Sofas and living room Suites, Bentwood Brothers (mulitple Clothing lines Covering 14 factories all over the Northwest)
J Lang, Compstall(Clothing),Ellergren (Wigan) Rugby shirts for Wigan/Widnes and most of the Rugby league teams, M & S Textiles (WoolleyBridge),Plenty of Tailors Dressmakers and House hold workers not including doing loads of PPE work for the Retired Carers,Nurses,Doctors,Consultants etc who are doing stuff for their old Colleagues its truly worth it) I've picked up so much knowledge on so many machines over the last 37 years it's been unreal (doing building and damp proofing after leaving school But moving onto Sewing machines worth from a few pounds to almost half a million pounds worth of a machine)
But on this job When you work as a Duo and you trust each others skills and then when you both finally get it all fully running in 2-3 days doing
7 Solid Hours on it all the First Day
11 Solid Hours on it all the second day
15 Solid hours on it all yesterday getting home at 5am tired but with a Smile on your face and
Working Alongside a Decent Honest fitter you know the "A Team" have Arrived in town
Especially when a Cousin of the Company turns up knowing how these machines need to be working because hes got his own Bed making products unit and says wow these guys know their stuff and they are Really Proffesional it makes you
"KNOW YOUR WORTH"
IN TERMS OF LOYALTY TO THE TRADE IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT WHEN OTHERS LEFT IT TO PORTRAY OTHER AVENUES SEEING THE RAG TRADE DYING ON ITS ARSE"
I PROBABLY GOT MADE REDUNDANT MORE THAN ANYONE I'VE EVER KNOWN IN MY LIFETIME BUT I PERSEVERED AND STAYED LOYAL AND SET UP MY OWN BUSINESS AND
NEVER LOOKED BACK, ASWELL AS NOT BEING GREEDY.
I ve said it for years I believe we are gonna see a Resurge in the Textile industry in this Country because I saw it 30 odd years ago when we started losing trade to the EU so watch this space I said after Brexit we will see it come back into this country BIG AGAIN but now with Covid 19 it Could get even bigger
Get those sewing machines out ladies and keep Practising your Sewing skills because I can see the good times rolling in again
some time soon ;) and I might even take on a couple of Apprentices somewhere down the line because this Big Business Unit is moving to a much bigger unit and it's all gonna need moving and setting up again and Servicing so let's get these kids back in jobs and
LETS MAKE GREAT BRITAIN
"GREAT AGAIN"
