Happy National Photography Day 📸

I get asked to take all sorts of pictures... landscapes, events, staff portraits, and venues, and I love it. Every assignment brings something new, and that’s what keeps it exciting.

One of my favourite photo shoots was a few years ago, when I was asked to photograph the sensory room at Glasgow East End Community Carers. At the time, they were based in Shettleston (they’ve since moved to Queenslie), but that day has stuck with me.

I walked into this incredible room filled with soft lighting, vibrant colours, and ambient sounds. It was such a calming, immersive space that I honestly wanted to build one for myself! I’ve never felt so relaxed after a photography job.

What I remember most is the colour, and being able to capture that feeling through the lens was a brilliant experience.

Here’s to the power of photography and the stories it allows us to tell.

A huge congratulations to one of our clients, Interfaith Scotland, on being named Charity of the Year at the SCVO Charity Awards last night. Such well-deserved recognition for a truly inspiring team.

Interfaith Scotland bring people together across faiths, cultures, and communities, at a time when unity and understanding feel more important than ever.

Their work is a powerful reminder of the value of connection, compassion, and dialogue.

A brilliant group of people doing genuinely important work. We’re so pleased to see them recognised for it.

Social Media: A powerful tool for charities - but it’s not the whole picture...

Social media is a fantastic way for charities to share their mission, amplify their voice, and connect with supporters. But is it enough on its own?

Relying solely on social media is like building a house on shifting sands - you don’t own the platform, and the rules can change at any moment. That’s why it’s crucial to see social media as just one part of a bigger marketing mix.

Discover how to balance your strategy, engage your audience, and create a sustainable presence online. Read our latest blog post to learn more.

For charities, social media is a vital way to share their mission, amplify their voice, and connect with supporters. It provides a cost-effective way to engage directly with communities, promote fundraising campaigns, and tell powerful stories. But while social media plays a crucial role in outreach...

We’re back with a fresh new name and focus!

It’s been a while since we last posted, but that’s because big things have been happening behind the scenes! You might remember us as Contribute... now, we’re 'We Contribute'.

Why the change? Because collaboration has always been at the heart of what we do. We're working even more closely with talented associates in business consultancy, marketing, and AI to bring more value to the charities and purpose-led businesses we support.

We’re still the same passionate, creative agency you know, just with a refreshed focus on partnerships, innovation, and impact.

Check out our latest blog post to learn more about why “we” matters:

The decision to rename my business from ‘Contribute’ to ‘We Contribute’ wasn’t just a change of name, it was a reflection of how my business has evolved. While I’m still the main creative and owner, this shift highlights the importance of collaboration, partnership, and embracing innovat...

We recently launched Writing the Asylum – a website showcasing the creative work of 28 writers and artists, inspired by the stories of former patients and staff at Gartnavel Royal Asylum. Writing the Asylum is a creative project funded by the University of Glasgow and Wellcome through the Glasgow Medical Humanities Early Career Awards in 2022 and 2023

In our latest blog post, we hear from the lovely Gillean McDougall about the Writing the Asylum project and the process behind building the new website.

“The Writing the Asylum website showcases the project beautifully, and the ethos of care, patience and attention to detail in Gerard’s work reflects the other creative elements of the project.” - Gillean

We recently designed and produced 'The Courageous non-uniformity of Stones'. A 60 page, perfect bound, book of poetry that captures the thoughts, feelings and hopes of over 20 contributors. It shares ways in which the poets found inspiration and encouragement through the pandemic.

Interfaith Scotland’s National Development Officer, Frances Hume, commented:

“We were delighted with the front cover design of our book of poems. We have received many compliments on this from recipients of the book. The Scottish Poetry Library mentioned how impressed they were with the typesetting and printing work. As ever, working with Gerard was a very positive experience. He took our suggestions and expertly designed the book as specified and was supportive and patient with any last minute changes we requested for the contents.

I would highly recommend Gerard for any work you need in design and publishing.”

The book can be purchased directly from Interfaith Scotland

It’s always a real privilege to design items for Scottish Interfaith Week. As part of this year's event, we designed a series of promotional posters and social media graphics.

Established by Interfaith Scotland in 2004, Scottish Interfaith Week provides an opportunity for interfaith groups, faith communities, schools, organisations and local communities across the country to celebrate Scotland’s religious diversity by planning events that bring people together to promote dialogue, understanding and co-operation between Scotland’s diverse religious communities and cultures.

This year's event is 'Storytelling'. Through storytelling, we can step into each other’s worlds for a moment – through a poem, a song or a photograph. Stories enable us to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and start important conversations.

This year's event is taking place between the 13th - 20th of November. Visit www.scottishinterfaithweek.org for more information.
