To shorten a double-lined dress, first turn it inside out and carefully remove the existing hem stitches from both the outer fabric and the lining (use a seam ripper). Measure and mark the new desired length on both layers, ensuring the lining remains slightly shorter than the outer fabric, then cut off the excess fabric evenly while adding seam allowance for the new hem.
Fold and press the new hems (typically 1/2–1 cm for each layer), then stitch them together either with the sewing machine the way I show you in this video. Press everything flat this will keep the lining intact and professional-looking.

How to make spaghetti straps
Cut long, narrow strips of fabric (typically 3 cm wide) on the bias for stretch and flexibility, then fold each strip in half lengthwise with right sides together and sew a straight seam along the long edge, leaving the ends open. Turn the tube right-side out using a safety pin, bodkin, or loop turner, press it flat with an iron, and topstitch if desired for a cleaner finish. Finally, attach the straps to your garment by pinning them in place at the desired length and sewing them securely to the bodice or neckline.

Taking in a jumpsuit at the back along the invisible zipper involves carefully adjusting the fit through the center-back seam for a smoother, more tailored silhouette without disrupting the zipper.
1. Try on the jumpsuit and pin the excess fabric evenly on both sides of the invisible zip (usually from neckline to waist or full length).
2. Mark the new seam lines, ensuring symmetry.
3. Unpick a short section of the zipper stitching if needed for access.
4. Sew the new side seams (or center-back adjustments), tapering smoothly.
5. Reattach/reinsert the invisible zipper, press the seams, and finish the edges neatly.
This alteration keeps the clean look of the invisible zip while improving the fit through the back and waist. Best done by an experienced tailor to avoid puckering or zipper issues.

Threading a bobbin and sewing machine is a quick essential skill for smooth sewing.
To thread the bobbin, insert the thread spool on the spool pin, guide the thread through the tension disc and bobbin winder tension guide, then wind it evenly onto an empty bobbin by engaging the bobbin winder (usually by pushing or shifting a lever). Once full, place the bobbin into the bobbin case, pull the thread through the tension spring, and insert the case into the machine shuttle so it clicks securely.
For the top thread, raise the needle to its highest point, place the spool on the pin, and follow the machine’s numbered threading path: through the tension assembly, take-up lever, and down to the needle (threading from front to back). Pull both top and bobbin threads under the presser foot to the back before starting to sew. Always consult your specific machine’s manual for exact paths, as they vary slightly by model. For the FREE Sewing Mini-Course

Sewing a kids apron
is a simple beginner-friendly project that requires minimal fabric and basic sewing skills.
To make one, cut a large rectangle for the main body (typically 20-30 cm wide by 20-36 cm tall, depending on desired coverage), then hem all four sides. Add a long rectangular strip for the waistband/ties (about 4-5 cm wide and long enough to wrap around the waist with generous ties), attach it to the top of the apron body, and optionally add a pocket or two for functionality.
Finish by pressing the seams and topstitching for durability. The result is a practical, customizable apron perfect for cooking, crafting, or gardening.

Threading a sewing machine bobbin and needle:
To thread the bobbin, first wind the thread onto an empty bobbin using the machine’s bobbin winder. Place the filled bobbin into the bobbin case or drop-in compartment, ensuring the thread pulls freely in the correct direction, then thread it through the tension spring.
Next, thread the needle by raising the needle to its highest position, passing the thread through the machine’s upper thread guides, and finally inserting it through the needle eye from front to back (or as specified by your machine model). Pull a few inches of thread through the needle before starting to sew.
Always consult your sewing machine’s manual for model-specific details.
