Love Sewing Studio is based in Hemel Hempstead and provides sewing lessons for children and adults in Hertfordshire. Established in September 2010, the weekly sewing lessons for girls age 8 - 17 are as popular as ever. The girls have made lots of fantastic things ranging from pencil cases to their own prom dresses! Check them out on my website. I also teach dressmaking to ladies on a private tuiti

on basis where you can learn on your own or with a friend or two. Sewing has been a passion of mine since I was six years old, where I spent many happy hours turning my mothers dressmaking scraps into wonderful creations for my dolls. Since those days I have lost count of the number of dresses I have made, as I spent thirty years designing and making wedding dresses for individual brides.

Prom Queen!

How beautiful does Lily look in her Prom dress she made herself 🥰
Lily chose a stunning vintage Vogue dress pattern and used a satin backed dupion fabric.
The bodice has an interesting dart shaping at the front, and a roll over band at the top. The bodice is b***d.
The skirt consists of an under layer, plus an over layer in a "high low" design. The skirt was gathered on to the bodice. A lovely tie belt completed the look.
Sixteen year old Lily made this dress in her weekly sewing lessons at "Love Sewing Studio" whilst also studying and sitting her GCSE'S.
Lily did take the dress home and completed the hem, zip attachment, belt making and any hand sewing required.
Lily has been sewing with us for four years and has truly lived up to our motto "From Pencil Cases to Prom Dresses".
I'm so very proud of her achievement. Well done Lily you did an amazing job 🥰

Sorry, I've not posted for a while! We're still here sewing amazing things!
Here are some of the projects the girls are making in our Saturday sewing classes. Mostly the girls are making their own clothes, which include: One Prom dress (now completed) five dresses, two tops, two pairs of shorts and a skirt. We also have a few smaller projects too.

Here we have some lovely appliquè work made by the girls in their weekly sewing lessons at "Love Sewing Studio".
Appliquè is a decorative sewing technique using small pieces of fabric which are then attached to a larger base fabric to create beautiful designs. The edges are secured by using a satin stitch or zig zag stitch on a sewing machine or can be hand stitched.
It is perfect for using small scraps of fabric.

This beautiful Duchesse satin top has been made by my grandaughter Tianii (13 yrs) in her weekly sewing lessons.
Well done 'T' awesome work and I'm sure you will get lots of wear from this as it will go with Jean's, skirts, shorts etc.

Our "Sew Happy Team" have been busy!
All of these items have been made by our youngest creatives aged 8 - 11 years old in their weekly sewing lessons.
We have a ginger bread house, a skirt, an owl pyjama case, a stuffed heart and a pencil case (a first project made by an eight year old).

How cute are these toys made by Liona (age 10). We have a lovely Raccoon and a colourful Lion mostly made on the sewing machine with some hand sewing to finish.

What do you do when you know that Spring is around the corner, and you would love a pretty dress which no one else will have?
Even though you're only nine years old, the answer is....you make your own 🥰
Well done to our very young creative, Ella for making this beautiful dress with the ruffle detail on the top bodice and a waistline frill. It took a while, but you got there!

Our first item of clothing completed in 2026.
Sienna (13yrs) has enjoyed making this top in her weekly sewing lessons.
We didn't have a pattern for this, so we adapted one and Sienna worked out the proportions she wanted for the Union flag design.
The edges were intentionally left unfinished so it will become frayed with wear.
The back has been finished with ribbon ties.
The top has been worn over a white vest top.
Well done Sienna, great work 🙂
We have since had two more tops completed, but no pics of the girls wearing them.

It's Bow Time!
I enjoyed making these sequin hair bows for my three granddaughters as part of their Christmas presents (it's now safe to post).
