Controversial opinion…… A veil can ruin your wedding!!
Those who know me, and have had the pleasure of hearing my sermon on veils, know how passionate I am about the subject. This is why we have an entirely separate appointment, dedicated to their subtle nuances. It’s so much more than length & trim …. You have colour, weight, opacity, width and combs to consider!
The wrong placement can have you questioning if you even wore one at all.
The wrong colour can stand out like a beacon…. But only when the photos are returned and it’s too late, till then, you’re none the wiser.
The wrong width can have you grasping for it all day, like the Hooded Claw grasping for his cape (ask your parents).
The wrong length can leave you looking like it was an afterthought and you borrowed one from lost and found.
There is, however, one exception to all of those rules. And that is an heirloom veil. They are worn solely for the purpose of honouring the great women who have gone before us and strengthening our own marriage vows by having them close by. A few years ago, we looked after two brides from the same family who were wearing the “Family Veil”. It was in incredible condition, beautifully embroidered and it even had its own book of provenance, listing each and every bride who wore it, with photographs, over the last 100 years! I simply adore that level of tradition, history and story telling.
Are you planning to wear a veil on your wedding day? Are you still on the fence? Let us know what you think about this underrated accessory in the comments, and we will see what people think.
Lots of love, Emma xx
