Ever have some off cuts when you're sewing? I always make matching scrunchies from my leftovers. Here's my super quick and easy way to make them. You just need a scrap of fabric and a hair bobble.

The piece I have used here is 27" by 7" but honestly I've used all sorts of measurements for the rectangle and they all turn out fine!

What am I wearing today?
An Orchid Dress pattern by which I made about 5 or 6 years ago, in a lovely light viscose. Perfect for the scorching day we're about to have!

I'm teaching the first of a 3 week dressmaking class today. We've got the fans on and we're ready to go!

You can mop me up off the floor later 🤣

Shirring. Everyone always struggles with it and it's honestly the easiest thing in the world, but the big secret is that you must steam it! It's not finished until it's had a trip over to the ironing board.

Would you like more info on how to get good shirring?

today and I'm showing you how easy it is to sew on a button with your machine. Many modern machines have a button sewing stitch (have a look in your manual) but if not you can set your stitch width to between 3 and 4mm and your stitch length to zero. If you can't drop your stitch length to zero you can drop your feed dogs or use your darning plate to cover them.

All commercially made buttons have the same measurement between the holes in the button, regardless of the button size so this should work for most buttons, however always do your first few stitches by hand to ensure that you have positioned the button under the foot correctly, before you put power through the machine.

Will you give this a go?

New dress alert!! I'd been meaning to make another Emerson Dress since the pattern was released in the spring. I finally found the time to knock this up over a few sewing sessions I cobbled together last week.

This time I went with the maxi length skirt and the longer, elbow length puff sleeves. The fabric is a gorgeous light cotton poplin in a beautiful Magnolia design that I got last year when I was at work. It's positively dangerous working at 🤣

There is an elasticated panel at the back of the dress, which makes it very comfortable to wear and easy to get on and off.

Lovely job.

today and I'm showing you my favourite type of pressing cloth.

These cloths help protect your fabric from the heat of the iron when pressing, whilst still allowing the press to take. Best of all you can see through them so you can press in the right spots; you can steam through them; and if they get a bit sticky and grimy you can put them in the washing machine to clean. Amazing!

They are the Iron On pressing clothes, and you get 2 in a pack. They last for ages, and they're my recommendation for sure.
