A bit of a personal (and slightly ridiculous) story from me 😅

So… my husband has done the full Lakes in a Day (yes, the 50 mile one 🤯) a few times, and at some point I casually said something along the lines of “I’d love to be able to do that”…

Now, for context, I am NOT a runner. I do the odd parkrun and that’s about it. This was very much one of those dreamy, unrealistic comments… like when you say you love a £1 million house on Rightmove knowing full well it’s not happening 😂

Anyway… fast forward to Christmas, and my husband decides this was a serious life goal of mine and gifts me an entry to the half distance event (23 miles) 🎁🏃‍♀️

So here we are… apparently this is happening 😅

Spending so much time in the Lake District through Little Lake Explorers, helping families come and enjoy this amazing place, I do feel really lucky to have it as such a big part of our lives 💛

Little Lake Explorers has always been about making trips here easier for families with little ones, because travelling with babies is a lot. If I can take some of that stress away so you can actually enjoy being here, that’s what it’s all about 👶✨

So while I’ll be attempting to run 23 miles (still can’t quite believe I’m saying that 😬), I’ll also be cheering on all the families coming to make their own memories in the Lakes.

And if anyone has accidentally ended up signed up to something wildly out of their comfort zone… please tell me I’m not the only one 😂

Lakes in a Day Half
Saturday 10th October 2026
Start: 2:30pm | 23 miles | 850m ascent
Route: Ambleside ➝ Cartmel
Fully waymarked (less nav, same buzz) ✅

Want a proper slice of Lakes in a Day without committing to the full epic or wrestling with constant navigation? This half-distance adventure delivers lovely Lake District scenery and that event-day electricity, just in a more accessible package.

You’ll set off from lively Ambleside, trace the western shore of Windermere, and soak up highlights like Claife Heights and Bigland Tarn before rolling into the calm charm of Cartmel.

You’ll also merge alongside the full-distance runners as they tackle their ultra journey. Make no mistake, at 23 miles, this is a tough trail outing in its own right.
Enter. Prepare. Run.

Why not walk a Wainwright this bank holiday weekend ?
"No ascent is more repaying for the small labour involved," wrote Alfred Wainwright of. At 335m, Loughrigg is one of the smallest of the Wainwright Fells, but its isolated position offers panoramic views across the central Lake District. With its easy-to-follow path and gentle contours, it is also a good choice for walkers with children. From Rydal – where you can visit Rydal Mount, Wordsworth's home (rydalmount.co.uk) – a tranquil path follows the shore of Rydal Water past the gaping Rydal Cave framed by jutting, angular rocks. The route then follows Loughrigg Terrace, a delightful traverse overlooking Grasmere, before climbing to a rocky but undulating summit that is scattered with streams and tarns.

Remember that a family-friendly fell is still a fell but with a backpack from us, it's a doddle for little ones – and always take a map (OS Explorer Map OL7).
