Charles Ager, Coventry. Closing Down

Charles Ager has been fortunate to be part of Coventry for the last 185. 0ver that time we have served many loyal customers, some who have been coming in to see us regularly over the years, thank you.
After COVID the last 5 years have been really tough. We had thought if we could survive that then we could survive anything! Little did we know how hard it was going to be.
Since then, the High Street has seen a big decline in retail shops, many much loved high street names have disappeared. This due mostly to changing customer needs, especially in childrens fitted shoes and the massive growth of cut price online shopping. The cost of living crisis means that people are worried about food and heating and a pair of new shoes become less of a necessity.
The cost of running a business has risen so much in the past few years alone it has become harder and harder to survive.
The budget in October last year was another big blow to small businesses up and down the country, with another increase of the minimum wage (that’s approximately 50% increase over 5 years), the rise in employer national insurance contributions (approximately £600 per employee) and the rise in business rates. Charles Ager like many businesses really want to continue trading but with all these factors against us we are faced with some difficult decisions.
We are absolutely devastated that we have had to do this, but we just cannot continue to lose money consistently month after month.
To every person who has shopped and supported us over the years we are immensely grateful without you we wouldn’t have survived as long as we have.
We also have the most amazing team who have been incredibly supportive over the years. You are not just employees, but our friends and we thank you for all your hard work

We would like to assure you that our Kenilworth and Swadlincote stores will continue tradings as normal

For customer and staff safety some of our fitters will still be using fitting screens, please still wear a face covering in the children's department as it can get very busy. Thank you

It's great to be back open again, we look forward to seeing you all again. We still have some availability for children's fitting appointments this week. If you would like an appointment just ring us on 02476221619. Alternatively just turn up, I'm sure we will get you seen quickly. Please bring a coat just in case you have to wait outside due to restricted numbers allowed in the shop. Don't forget your face covering.

Unfortunately, we cannot open our stores until the 12th of April due to the Government guidelines.
However, we are now setting up our stores to welcome you back, were putting all the winter boots away making room for the exciting new Spring & Summer ranges.
We are also taking appointments for children's fittings for the week April the 12th to the 17th, if you would like to make a booking please contact us via Facebook Messenger or email [email protected] with your preferred date, time and how many children and we will get back to you ASAP.
Unfortunately, availability is limited.
We will of cause be doing children's fitting without appointments as well.
Our opening hours from the 12th of April will be 9am to 5pm
