The sewing machine revolutionised garment production, making clothing which had originally taken weeks and months to manufacture, into a process which would take perhaps only a day or even just hours.

The sewing machine evolved with 5 main contributors from 1790 - 1851 through various engineering and invention journeys, eventually being mass produced. Today there are numerous different sewing machines which do all sorts of different jobs.

If we didn’t have the sewing machine, life would be very different today

Rags to Riches - Make an Evening Bag

Make an evening bag, either from fabric you can up-cycle or from new fabric, coordinating with an outfit for the upcoming festive season, or make a beautiful gift which would be a one-off present for Christmas.

Sewing is a creative pastime, which can be channelled into many different areas of expertise, for example crafts, upholstery, dressmaking, haute couture, repairs and alterations, creating your own business - making whatever comes to mind, manufacturing clothes, handbags etc etc. It is also very mindful, enhancing mood and confidence, with huge job satisfaction, creating something bespoke, one off and personal.
