Paperpaintpixels

Paperpaintpixels Heirloom-quality illustrated alphabet prints, nursery art & educational posters. Hello, I’m Carolyn — illustrator, mum, and founder of PaperPaintPixels.

Sustainable, personalised, and made in Somerset — designed for curious kids to grow with your child and fit beautifully into family homes. From my Somerset studio, I create illustrated prints that help children look closer, ask questions, and discover more. Made to order on sustainable paper, each print is designed to last and made just for you to grow with your family.

Some children want to know the name of every dinosaur. Others notice every digger, beetle, whale or star. It tends to be one thing, very intensely, for about eighteen months.

These five get ordered more than anything else I make, and I think it’s because they take the obsession seriously.

Nothing is a generic fish or a generic dinosaur. If a child asks what that one is, the print answers.

Counting down: transport at five, space at four, bugs at three, dinosaurs at two. Ocean at the top, which surprised me a little.

Tell me which one you’d pick?

Four colourful alphabets, each with something different to discover.

Wildflowers for the child who notices every tiny detail.
Dinosaurs for the one who knows exactly which one is which.
Rainforest creatures for the curious explorer.
And My Alphabet for a bright, colourful introduction to letters.

Which one would your child choose?

All four are hand illustrated and printed on beautifully textured cotton rag paper in my Somerset studio.

A sweet little flower covered butterfly for the Big Butterfly Count 🦋

Until 9 August, Butterfly Conservation is asking us to spend 15 minutes outside recording the butterflies and day flying moths we see.

Anyone can join in, whether you count in a garden, park or another sunny outdoor space. Your sightings help scientists understand how UK butterflies are doing.

I will be keeping watch in the garden here in Somerset. Have you seen many this summer?

The part I still haven’t quite got used to is seeing where a print ends up.

Tim’s son has the dinosaur alphabet above his reading chair, and they’re learning all the names together. Erin chose the transport alphabet after searching for just the right one. Elizabeth ordered the my alphabets twice — one for each of her girls. Jessica told me the woodland alphabet is helping her daughter remember her letters while they’re homeschooling. And Dawn had been looking for something that suited their rainforest nursery for a long time. I think she’d nearly given up.

I draw these at my desk in Somerset, with reference books stacked around me, and for months they exist only as sketches, notes and colour tests.

Then they go out into the world and become something else: something pointed at, talked about, argued over, learnt from and returned to.

Which alphabet would you choose?

Thank you for buying and enjoying my prints. I'm so very honoured to be a part of so many stories.

A whole safari on the number 13, name and date printed into the destination blind. A chosen flag or first stop too.

A personalised new baby print, with the name and birth date printed into the destination blind where a London bus would normally tell you where it's going. There's a rhino, a zebra and a tiger up top, a flamingo, a bear and an elephant down below, and a lion who has somehow ended up driving.

I print each one to order on archival fine art paper here in Somerset. It's probably the one I get asked about most for new baby gifts, baby showers and christenings.

A little card for a brand new tiny human 🦒🐘
Personalised for baby Finn and packed with a whole safari welcome committee — giraffe, elephant, zebra, lion and all.

I love making these new baby cards because somehow adding a baby’s name makes them feel instantly more special. Also, any excuse to draw a tiny elephant holding a banner.

Personalised new baby cards are now in the shop — perfect for baby showers, new arrivals and those “oh help, I need a lovely card quickly” moments.

A little new studio detail ✨

Every print now leaves the studio with its own Certificate of Authenticity — hand-signed, dated, and tucked in with the print.

It’s a small thing, but after ten years of drawing and sending prints out into the world, it feels like a nice way to mark where each one has come from.

Drawn by hand in Somerset, printed on beautiful 100% cotton rag paper, and made with care from start to finish.

Every beetle, bear, balloon and tiny boat included.

Work in progress on the studio iPad this week.
These are two of the Somerset butterflies I've been drawing for a new

The top one is a comma, that wonderfully ragged wing edge is actually what it's supposed to look like. The lower one is a speckled wood, a butterfly I've probably walked past a hundred times without really looking at properly. The bottom one is soon to be a silver y moth.

More to come on this one. 🦋

A to Z, but make it underwater.

Angel fish to zebra shark, with a vampire squid and xestospongia somewhere in the middle. The ocean is probably stranger than any of us fully appreciate, and I find that rather comforting somehow.
