Benny Golson, Sonny Rollins, and Thelonious Monk were among 57 iconic jazz legends gathered for the legendary photograph “A Great Day in Harlem,” taken by Art Kane for Esquire magazine on August 12, 1958. The remarkable shot was captured on the steps of a brownstone located at 17 East 126th Street in New York.
This historic image brought together generations of geniuses from swing-era icons to bebop pioneers creating one of the most famous portraits in music history.
