WHAT IS DEADSTOCK YARN?

Deadstock yarn is what we call yarn that is no longer needed by the fashion industry and will otherwise be thrown away - for instance if there are a small amount of leftover cones of wool from an order from a customer, a factory often can't make use of these so they might be discarded! Not very planet friendly 😬🌎

This is why at WE ARE WASTD we take deadstock yarn that factories would otherwise throw away and turn it into beautiful garments to be loved for years to come 💕

Ever wondered how our WE ARE WASTD jumpers are made? 🤔 here's a little snapshot of how they come off the knitting machine - complete and all sewn together as if made by a 3D printer!

Our signature Danna Jumper is designed to be as flattering and eco friendly as possible! Knitted using 100% industrial deadstock yarn, she comes off the machine in one piece - this means zero waste because we don't need to cut any fabric at all 🌍🌏🌎

Each of our WASTD jumpers are checked and pressed by our wonderful quality control team, headed up by Nina, the life and soul of every party! She has worked at our family run UK factory for over 20 years so she knows her stuff when it comes to inspecting knitwear 🧶

Our commitment to creating beautiful knitwear with the smallest environmental footprint possible relies on a zero waste design ethos, right down to how we attach our swing tags to our finished products - instead of using new plastic kimbles or string we make use of the tiny little bit of cast-on waste that is created when knitted our jumpers 🌱🌻
