We’re not ready. But it’s happening.

Anokhi House of Sarees is still here — for now.
But the countdown has begun.
And with every passing day, every familiar face walking through our doors one last time…
we feel our hearts breaking — piece by piece.

This isn’t just a store closing.
This is the end of something sacred.
The end of generations of love, stitched into every pleat, every thread, every story.
This space holds the laughter of brides-to-be, the nervous smiles of mothers, the quiet tears of grandmothers choosing sarees for the last time.
And now… the tears are ours.

We try to smile. We try to be strong. But truthfully… we’re not okay.

Every hug from you feels like a goodbye we don’t want to say.
Every “thank you” hits us in the chest.
Every memory you share — of your first saree, your wedding day, your mother bringing you here as a child — brings us to tears.

You’ve walked in holding our hands, sobbing in the aisles, telling us what this place meant to you.
And we’ve cried with you — because we feel it too.

This wasn’t just retail. This was ritual.
This was community.
This was home.

We are devastated.
We are overwhelmed.
We are holding on to every second like it’s the last breath of a dream we never wanted to wake up from.

So if you still want to visit, please come.
Come cry with us. Come say goodbye.
Come walk through these doors one last time — and let us honour this place, together.

Because when we finally lock up for the last time…
we won’t just be turning off the lights.

We’ll be closing a lifetime of love.

With all our hearts,
and tears we can’t hold back anymore —

Some Goodbyes Break You!

She used to walk in holding their tiny hands…
A mother — full of grace, with her daughters trailing behind, eyes wide with wonder.
While she carefully unfolded sarees, searching for that one perfect drape for a wedding, a Diwali, or just because…
Her daughters played between the racks.
They twirled in dupattas that kissed the floor.
They hid behind rich silks, giggling, pretending to be brides.

And we watched.
We smiled.
We became part of their world.

Years passed.
The giggles turned into voices filled with dreams.
Those same little girls returned — grown, radiant, nervous.
Now they were the brides, walking through our doors once more…
But this time, their mothers held back tears.

We’ve seen it — the unspoken look between a mother and daughter when she steps out of the fitting room in the one.
The tears neither of them expected.
The silent moment of realization:
“My little girl is leaving. But she’s ready.”

Anokhi wasn’t just a shop.
It was a haven.
A place where childhood turned into womanhood.
Where sarees weren’t just fabric — they were memories stitched into six yards.
Where joy and sorrow sat side by side.
Where mothers let go, and daughters held on, just a little longer.

We held your stories in our hands, folded in every pleat.
We cried with you — quietly, behind the counter.
Because your happiness became ours.
Your goodbyes broke our hearts too.

Now, it’s our turn to say goodbye.
And it hurts more than we can say.
But we close our doors with full hearts —
Because you gave us a lifetime of love, tradition, and tears we will never forget.

Thank you for growing with us.
For trusting us.
For letting us love you.

Forever a part of your story,
Anokhi House of Sarees

She was never the one people came to see — but she’s the reason they stayed.

Anokhi House of Sarees may have had one name above the door…
But the name that never appeared — the one that was whispered in kitchens, in quiet prayers, in the soft humming of lullabies — that was the name that held everything together.

She didn’t run the shop.
She ran the world behind it.

While sarees were sold and business was built, she was in the background, doing the quiet work that no one claps for:

Raising children.
Feeding mouths — family, friends, strangers, anyone who walked in hungry.
Never asking if they had enough — just giving, because that’s who she was.

She never had a “day off.”
No retirement party.
No applause.
Just pots on the stove. Children at her feet. A heart big enough to hold generations.

We didn’t always see it then — not clearly.
Because love like hers doesn’t shout.
It whispers.
It holds you when you don’t know you need holding.
It gives until there’s nothing left, and then somehow… still gives more.

And now, as the shutters close on Anokhi for the final time,
we cannot let her story stay silent.

She was the heartbeat in the background.
The soul that fed us — with food, with warmth, with love so endless we’re still being held by it today.

She didn’t just make meals — she made home.
She didn’t just raise children — she raised us.
All of us.
Even when we didn’t know we needed raising.

And now, as we say goodbye to the shop, we say:
We see you.
We remember you.
We are because you were.

You were never just the woman in the kitchen.
You were the architect of love.
The unseen pillar.
The hidden figure who held it all.

You deserved the world, and you gave it instead.

This is your legacy.
This is your light.
This is for you.

We will never forget.

This is the hardest thing we’ve ever had to write.
After 58 years,
Anokhi House of Sarees is closing its doors.

And with it… we are letting go of a lifetime.
A world.
A heartbeat that has echoed through our family for nearly six decades.

This wasn’t a business.
It was our blood.
It was grandparents who gave up everything to start something from nothing — with trembling hands, worn-down shoes, and faith that love and hard work would be enough.
It was parents who never took a day off. Who smiled through exhaustion. Who poured tea for customers before they even asked.
Who found joy in helping brides shine and little girls feel grown.

It was childhoods spent playing under sari racks, doing homework behind the counter, and falling asleep to the sound of scissors cutting fabric.
It was laughter echoing from the back room.
It was grief, too — when we lost the ones who built this place, and came to open the store anyway, because they would’ve wanted us to.
It was marriages. Babies. Funerals. Festivals. Firsts. Lasts.
All inside these four walls.

It was our everything.

And somehow, it became yours too.
You brought us your most sacred moments — your wedding dreams, your baby showers, your goodbyes.
You trusted us, generation after generation.
You came as customers… and left as family.

We remember your stories.
We remember your faces.
We remember the way you hugged us after finding the saree.
We remember the quiet tears of mothers watching daughters take their first steps into womanhood.

And now, we cry our own tears — because we don’t know how to say goodbye.

This photo… this family…
We are what Anokhi was built on.
Hands that folded thousands of sarees.
Hearts that never stopped caring.
Souls tied to this place so tightly, it feels like leaving part of ourselves behind.

We’re not just closing a store.
We’re saying goodbye to a lifetime of love.

Thank you.
For every visit. Every memory. Every moment.
Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.
Thank you for being the reason we held on for 58 years.

The lights will turn off. The doors will lock.
But this love?
It will never, ever fade.

With broken hearts and endless gratitude,
The Anokhi Family

As we sit here, reading your words, hearing your voices, and feeling the love pouring in from every corner… our hearts are overflowing.

It’s hard to put into words what it means to hear how Anokhi House of Sarees has touched your lives — how a small shop that began in 1967 became a part of your families, your milestones, your memories.

You’ve shared stories of sarees chosen for weddings, for mothers and daughters, for festivals, for moments that meant everything. And now, as you share how Anokhi was there through it all… we find ourselves in tears.

You didn’t just shop with us — you trusted us, celebrated with us, grew with us.
And in doing so, you made us part of something so much bigger than fabric and thread.
You made us part of your story.

We are beyond humbled. Beyond grateful.
This isn’t just about sarees. It never was.
It’s about love. It’s about family. It’s about generations of connection that can’t be measured.

Thank you — from the depths of our hearts — for letting us be a part of your lives.
We are forever honored.
We are forever yours.

With all our love,
The Anokhi Family

They Didn’t Just Work Here.
They Gave This Place Its Soul.

At Anokhi House of Sarees, the true beauty has never just been in the sarees.
It has always lived in the hearts and hands of the people who made them possible.
Our staff — past and present — have given this house more than time.
They have given it their lives, their loyalty, and their quiet, relentless devotion.

These are not just workers.
They are the reason we exist.
The ones who stood through the early mornings, the late nights, the chaos before festivals.
The ones who never asked for recognition, but gave their best — always.
The ones who carried our legacy on their shoulders, year after year.

Some stayed with us for decades.
Some walked with us for a few precious years.
But every single one has left an imprint that time cannot erase.

They laughed with us, cried with us, sacrificed with us.
They built this house, not with bricks or mortar —
but with hard work, grace, and a love that words will never fully capture.

They are not employees. They are family.
And even if they’ve moved on, they never truly leave —
Because this house holds them.
In its walls, in its values, in every saree that leaves with a story.

To every person who has ever been a part of Anokhi —
We see you. We honour you.
We owe everything to you.
Thank you for giving us your heart.

For over 50 years, Anokhi House of Sarees has been more than just a shop on Belgrave Road — it’s been a home, a family, and a shining light on Leicester’s Golden Mile.
To our incredible customers, you have been our heart. You welcomed us into your lives for weddings, festivals, and countless special moments. We’ve watched generations grow — children who once held their mothers’ hands here, brides who smiled with hope, and families who returned year after year.
The hardest part? Knowing that future generations will miss out on owning an Anokhi creation — a treasure we’ve been proud to share with you all these years.
Our Diwali windows, bursting with colour and light, brought joy to so many. We know you’ll miss seeing them sparkle, as much as we’ll miss creating them.
To our amazing staff, you have been the soul of Anokhi. Your kindness, patience, and love brought magic to every moment inside these walls.
As we close our doors, our hearts are heavy with sorrow — but full of gratitude for every smile, every tear, and every memory we made together.
Belgrave Road and the Golden Mile won’t be the same without us. We are deeply grateful for every moment you shared with us.
This isn’t goodbye — it’s a thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️
With love,
The Anokhi House of Sarees Family
