☀️ Summer has arrived at Rachel’s Vintage & Retro! (Just in time for the upcoming heatwave 🫠).

I’ve been adding lots of seasonal vintage treasures to the website today, including a picnic basket, 1970s cool box, colourful Tupperware, beach towels, a pitcher and a flask, beakers and more.

They’ve reminded me of family picnics, camping holidays, squash poured from plastic jugs and long afternoons spent in the garden.

Did your family have any of these? I’d love to know what your favourite summer memories are. 🌼🍓🍋

Take a browse if you’re feeling nostalgic – there are plenty more summer finds waiting on the website!

Who remembers these Helix Hedgehog pen holders?

I found it in a charity shop yesterday and it sparked an interesting conversation with the lady behind the till. She asked me what it was and I explained, and said the only reason I am buying it is because I had one when I was a kid in the 80s.

I could see that it resonated and she said she had recently bought herself some of those 80s metal desk toys that balance when you play with them - like the Newton’s cradle.

We both agreed that it was the days of having something else to occupy us when we were bored instead of reaching for our phones. These objects were more tactile and whilst they were a momentary distraction, didn’t remove us from the real world.

We lamented about that not being the case for kids these days (although I am sure they would argue differently). And then she said she left her phone at home one day and when she checked it in the evening, there were no missed calls or messages!

So that made me think, back in the day no one could contact us whilst we were out - perhaps we all need to put down our phones once in a while and not be worried about what we will miss. Let’s play with 80s desk toys again instead! 😉❤️
