19th Century Wooden Pond Yacht, Weighted Keel, Original Sails & Rigging
A wonderfully characterful early wooden pond yacht, approximately 22 inches (56cm) in length, retaining its original cream canvas sails, wooden mast and boom, rigging and weighted keel.
The yacht has an exceptionally attractive traditionally constructed wooden hull, with a long, elegant profile, pronounced keel and beautifully aged timber showing a rich natural grain. The upper deck retains its original fittings, while the mast, boom, cordage and associated metalwork remain in place.
Particularly appealing are the original cream canvas sails, comprising a large mainsail and smaller forward sail, which remain remarkably evocative of the yacht’s intended use. The substantial weighted keel provides the ballast required for stability when sailing, confirming this as a genuine pond yacht rather than simply a static decorative model.
The yacht has developed a wonderful deeply aged and time-worn patina, with extensive surface wear, old marks and scratches throughout. There is historic wear and loss to the underside of the hull/keel, as shown in the photographs, but this has been left untouched and contributes considerably to the character and authenticity of the piece.
Dimensions; Approximately 22” (56cm) long.
This is an early pond yacht with a weighted keel and original sailing equipment. It has not been tested on water and is offered primarily as a collectable and decorative antique.
