LCF X Huntsman project 2nd Yr (Future Artisans)

Snippets from my current first semester project, a collaboration with Huntsman, I've been fortunate to have received a pork (a rejected job which may be reworked) bundle containing the huntsman house Tweed. This is about as out there as I get in terms of design.

For any tailors who see this and think "that dart looks way out of place" you're absolutely right, that's how it was when I received it and had to work around it when cutting and making the piece with a new pattern hence why the dart placement is off.

Not necessarily a break from tailoring but just a little tidy up, thought I'd show off a small piece of one of my other passions, magic. I think I've always loved magic since I was really small (now I'm only slightly below average height!) and for me it always went beyond the awe and spectacle of the magic itself, I had to know how it was done, which for me made it all the more magical.

Kwik Fit check.

Haven't made myself anything and actually finished it in quite a while, not bad but needs a bit of work, going to give that right (your left) sleeve head a good press though suspect I'll have to take it out and redistribute the fullness. That's on me for using my sleeve blocks and not checking properly...

I've not posted much on this account since I've been at LCF Uni on the bespoke tailoring course. So far it's been a tremendous learning experience and feels like forever since I've not only committed myself academically and pushed myself to do better but also actually finally feel like I'm learning again and making progress as a tailor.

Will try and upload more soon but here's some snippets of recent work.

Can you tell I'm not a morning person?

The jacket here is the one I've been working on, finally complete and I'm very pleased. I've opted for no shoulder pad this time round and attached the facings on top by hand, which was difficult but well worth it to learn a new method. I'm honestly in love with this style. It feels a lot lighter than the last one with looser padding but more structured put into the shoulders to compensate for the lack of wadding.

My craft is still not perfect but we're getting there 💪

The hand padding of the lapels has begun, pockets are in too I might add, I've no clue how this will turn out in the end but I'm excited nonetheless...

First buttonhole I've done in at least 6 months 😱 how did I do?

Good to get a little practice in before the real deal on the waistcoats and eventually jacket.

Has anyone got any little buttonhole making tips or tricks they're willing to share?

Fittings

One of the hardest things for me is finishing my personal projects, mostly because during the making and first fitting stage I hit a point where I realise I just hate the fabric I'm working with, either it's too bland or I don't like the feel, but my god I am in love with this dogtooth wool.
