Biggest lesson I learned in my first year as freelancer:
You get to know yourself in a different way. Before I may have known my weaknesses, but there was always a manager and teammates to fill the gaps.
If you work on your own, there is no safety net. You need to manage yourself and the gaps.

In my stubborn case, my gut often knew I should decline, but because I thought ‘it would be fun’ or ‘it’s a good opportunity’ I’d make promises and plan it in regardless. The unrealistic planning means I only achieved about half I set out to do.
For example, many videos filmed and scripted never made it. And with this last video in my reflection series I’m letting it go.
It’s a new year and we start again, this time planning in buffers so I don’t stress myself out the same way.
That is my January goal for 2026.
