Sorting through my patterns today for the next piece and got reminded of this little guy.

In the haze of finishing up Decorex last year, I totally forgot about my little frog friend that appeared in some of the panel work on display.

Occasionally you piece together a little character that you fall in love with. This chap jumped in to my favourites, alongside the chunky little bees I use often. Despite being tiny little pieces of wood, you can create large personalities with marquetry.

I promised myself I would revisit him and bring him back in new work, but it totally slipped my mind. There will definitely be some more pond action in the works soon.

First oiling up for this chap today, and it’s revealing the most beautiful texture, on texture on texture.

As my practice is evolving towards more client based commission work, I’m on a bit of a mission to champion the endless possibilities there are to include marquetry work in your surroundings.

Not just limited to florals, or geometric patterns, marquetry is an opportunity to take a surface, get playful and inject huge amounts of your personality in to your space.

This piece is a test piece for a much larger set of panels. Most bits worked, some bits need a little tweak here and there, but overall a great result to move forward with.

A little more finishing tomorrow then he’ll cure for a while before he gets a bit more treatment with something totally new to me. Gilding with gold.

Who doesn’t love a bit of gilding, right?

It’s official, I’m advocating for more people to use animal prints in their marquetry commissions.

If you’d have asked me a week ago how I’d feel about marquetry leopard print, I’d probably not have been much of a fan. However, after piecing this chap together, something is appealing to the Essex in me, and I am living for it.

Something tells me it’s going to be stunning once it’s all sanded and oiled.

Pictured are a few favourites from the archive. Whether it’s scales, feathers or little fishy fins, marquetry lends itself to bring out the most beautiful, characterful movement within a piece.

Not one to shy away from a complex pattern, selecting the right textures and tones for all these little pieces has become a bit of an obsession.

Glue up time for the strong man, looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Finishing the week with something a little different.

On a mission to explore all the possibilities to play with marquetry styles, this handsome chap will be a test panel for a much larger, more intricate diptych.

Combining marquetry work with my love for traditional style tattoo art ,and a sprinkling of Tom of Finland vibes, has been something I’ve wanted to try out for a long time. Even a year ago this wouldn’t have been something I would have achieved easily, so it’s a great way to put the skills to the test.

A weekend of leopard print and marquetry tattoos ahead, buzzing to carry on with him.

Deep in pattern drawing mode at the moment for multiple upcoming projects and, as I was looking through my veneer library, I came across these beauties from my collab earlier this year.

Well worth a revisit on the old grid today, the textures on these veneers were mind boggling. So, so beautiful.

One of two collections Mundy launched at the Surface Design Show this year, ‘Earth’ had this deep, rich palette of dyed woods that gave an almost gentleman’s club smokiness to the piece.

Dyed cherry, walnut, Birds Eye maple and ash all combine so deliciously to give this effect of movement across the board.

Maple is always one of my favourites, but this cognac toned version is most definitely working its way in to my next piece.

Finishing up the week editing some images of this latest piece ‘As I stood there,in solitude’ and feeling all the feelings about my craft.

This piece was created to reflect how we’re never truly alone, and the joy in simply stopping and consciously taking note of what’s happening around us. The natural world has fed my practice for a long time, and I’m super grateful to have the job I have.

It’s honestly the best feeling when you step back a week or so after completing some panels and everything just feels right.

The making process can, at times, be all consuming. Weeks of planning, drawing, cutting and piecing together, quite often you lose a realistic vision of things are progressing. All part of the creative persons inner workings.

I love everything about this pair of panels, so much texture from the veneers. The background is a particular favourite, and one I’ve not come across before. Beautiful, beautiful moments from the trees life, swirling across the scene.

I’ve become a bit of a fan of combining both natural and dyed veneers to add a little bit of drama, and this little bird has received so much wonderful feedback, thank you.

Huge love for the weekend, C x

Who can resist a studio shot with Pomeranians right?

A few little behind the scenes images on our shoot with taken by the uber talented

After a full on day, I had a little browse through these images and they gave me a very lovely feeling inside.

Life is pretty crazy in the studio this month with projects I can’t share much of on here as yet, and a mountain of admin that doesn’t lend itself to enjoyable insta photos. However, I feel very blessed to have my two crazy studio babies keeping me company.

I’m not one to enjoy a photo of myself, but Ed has a wonderful way of capturing the moment perfectly. Feeling super grateful to have these photos forever.

Casually presenting new work at the Victoria and Albert Museum last night. Dream made for a self confessed museum nerd. Read on to find out more.

An evening dedicated to raising funds and awareness, for the future of craftspeople in the UK. work tirelessly to secure sponsors to constantly educate and provide opportunities for makers to develop their skill set, grow and push the boundaries of their practice. Many traditional skills would eventually be lost to time without the support received.

Personally, my craft career would not be where it is now without the education, love and ongoing community that QEST provides. Their support starts at the scholarship level, but continues far beyond that.

I created this diptych specifically to show and , should this sell by midnight Sunday 22nd March, as a small thanks to QEST I will be donating 25% of the proceeds to them. This will help to bring an amazing opportunity to a maker in the next year.

This is a limited opportunity and will end this weekend, so please share and repost if you can. Let’s get these acquired!

Biggest love as always, C 💜

Finishing up the week with a wonderful collaboration in progress, and a whole lot of colour.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Liz and her team .andco and .editions to create this characterful marquetry serpent for an upcoming furniture launch.

A mind boggling amount of planning went in to designing this little guy. Hundreds of scales individually designed a plotted. Multiple shades of blues and greens, hand selected so that the light will catch them beautifully as you move around the piece.

Liz and I met at this years and immediately hit it off over our joint love of the hand crafted, and in particular marquetry.

It’s been a real joy working on this project, and a perfect example of how any surface is an opportunity for playful design. More information on this as we get closer to

Marquetry really is the best, but then I’m most definitely biased.

Little steps closer to getting this latest diptych ready for a very special event next week at my dream venue

be hosting the Ultimate Evening of Craft, celebrating the power and future of craft. This immersive experience and showcase brings together 40 QEST Alumni, demonstrating the remarkable breadth of creativity within the UK, raising funds to invest in craftspeople across the land.

Should this work sell prior to, or on the night of, the event, I shall be donating a part of the proceeds to . A tiny thanks for their support to myself and many other remarkable people in the craft community.

Pictured is a little work in progress from the build, utilising my all time favourite marquetry technique, sand shading. As part of my Carpenters Company Scholarship, I spent time with the boys learning patination techniques for wood.

My time with Barnaby and Dru was instrumental in discovering the aesthetic within my practice, and gave me a taste for burning wood to create beautiful effects. Sadly marquetry panels don’t stand up to full flame, however the heat from the hot sand creates the most beautiful depth and shade.

Please reach out or DM with any interest on the piece.

Biggest love Cx
