We attended the Somali Week Festival closing concert, at the invitation of Coffee Afrik CIC. 🇸🇴❤️

We didn’t understand every word, but we understood every feeling. It was a powerful reminder that culture is felt before it’s understood. We feel this sentiment across our interconnected localities.

For those of us building with communities, this matters.

Bringing communities into positively unfamiliar spaces is how empathy, confidence and belonging grow, for adults and young people alike.

It’s also why we’re excited about our Communities for Children partnership and about bringing our communities together more intentionally.

For 25 years I’ve watched grassroots groups deliver the outcomes for our communities: the youth work, the food, the culture, the care. And they own none of the space.

So I stopped waiting for a seat at the table. I started building one.

NOPRICEONCULTURE is the movement but also a platform and the space I’m building as a woman, a mother and a creative, for the people who hold our places together. I’ll be sharing the build here: the wins, the setbacks and what it really takes.
