Big news! We’ll be heading to We Out Here Festival this August and couldn’t be more excited.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been busy stitching away and working on a whole bunch of brand new bucket hats. There are loads of fresh hats in the works, with plenty of one-off pieces that you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re coming to We Out Here, make sure you come and say hey and grab your favourite before it disappears. As always, everything is handmade with love and made in very limited numbers, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Can’t wait to share what I’ve been creating and hopefully see some familiar faces there!

One of my absolute favourite things about running Buckets & Bums? MARKETS!
There’s just something so special about getting to meet my customers in real life—chatting, laughing, hearing what you’re loving, and sharing the stories behind the products.

The conversations
Even when people are just popping over to see what Buckets & Bums is all about, I end up having the best chats. It’s amazing how many of us are on the same wavelength about wanting to live more sustainably and do our bit for the planet. It honestly fills me right up.

The feedback
Without a physical shop, markets are my chance to see what people gravitate toward—what they pick up, smile at, and fall in love with. Hearing things like “OMG I had bedding like this when I was a kid!” makes my whole day. It’s like getting to hand out tiny nostalgia trips.

The community
And I can’t not mention fellow traders! Whether they’re my stall neighbours for the day or small biz besties in the making, meeting other makers and business owners is such a highlight. When you usually work solo, having someone to swap stories with, trade tips, or bounce ideas off is pure gold.

The shopping
Also… let’s be honest. I always end up shopping. I might not chat to every trader, but you can bet I’ve scoped out every stall. The amount of talent at markets blows me away every single time—and yes, I’ve definitely bought something at pretty much every market I’ve ever traded at.

The glow
In short? I adore markets. Every time I pack up after a day of trading, I leave with this huge happy buzz—like my faith in humanity has been topped up again. It’s so easy to get stuck in negative thoughts: “Is my business doing okay?” “Does anyone even care about sustainability?” (hi, intrusive thoughts!)
But then a market day comes along and proves every single one of those doubts wrong.

You are on the right track.
People do care.
And your small biz really is your superpower. 💛

Hey I’m Steph and I’m passionate about tackling waste culture which is why I started Buckets & Bums

With a love for secondhand shopping and a hate for items unnecessarily going to waste Buckets & Bums was born

I’ve always loved shopping in vintage stores and charity shops etc, but around 2019 I started becoming more aware of the impact of fast fashion on the planet. I’d already tried to switch over to using less plastic items in my day to day life, so the next logical step was trying to cut down my fast fashion consumption. Then naturally I thought well what else can I do, and Buckets & Bums started to come alive

It was all a bit touch and go at first, one day I was hunting for fabric in charity shops, then the next I was doubting myself, because what the hell did I know about running a business?

After a big old break, and that thing that happened in 2020 where we all had to stay home, that’s what gave me the real push. I won’t lie, I hated my job and 1 week back after furlough I thought to myself I need to start sewing some bucket hats and bumbags, get creative, do something I love and get the hell out of my current job!

More than 5 years later still making bucket hats & bumbags, always coming up with new ideas for new products (many that haven’t made it past the sample stage or even got to the sample stage yet) still on a learning curve and still having ups and downs.

You’ll be pleased to know i left the job I hated, and now work full time somewhere I actually enjoy and get to work on Buckets & Bums on the side.

So far on this journey I’ve traded at lots of markets and I’m so lucky to say I’ve even traded at some festivals, which teenage me would be so fu***ng proud of. If you’re not making your teenage self proud, what are you doing!

For now I’ll continue to move forward, making my little mark on the world, repurposing things that may have otherwise been sent to landfill and making funny little accessories

So if like me you hate things going to waste, you hate the impact fast fashion is having on the planet but you love funky and one of a kind statement accessories join me on this journey and help keep things in circulation and out of landfill!

I’ve been pretty quiet on here as I’ve been having social media scaries!

Over the summer I took a break from socials and wasn’t sure if I wanted to return as every time I come back on here I’ve felt like total s**t. I can’t help but compare myself to what everyone else is posting, which I’m sure a lot of people can relate to.

It fu***ng sucks because I know I need to be posting for Buckets & Bums but it’s just me behind this brand, with help from 💖

I still want to share this journey with you all and try to combat my anxiety surrounding social media, so I’ll be putting on my big girl pants, planning some content and coming on here to post and check messages, but that’s probably about it for a while.

Whilst I’ve been away from scrolling I’ve been sewing new bucket hats and bumbags, making upcycled bag charms and bead chains, some of which I hope to share soon. I’ve also been keeping my hands busy with beaded embroidery and junk journalling which I think has helped improved my mental health.

I Just want you to know I’m still very much here working on Buckets & Bums, just been real quiet on socials for a bit

Hey Peckham people, I’m going to be at at this Sunday 2nd October, 12-5!
