Hello knitters and non-knitters! 🧶

As you may know, I have completed the knitting challenge that ran throughout March, which was to knit everyday. I successfully fulfilled my second target of £1,000 raised for Alzheimer’s Research. Hoorah!!!

I am thankful and grateful to my friends, family and coll for supporting me and donating to this great cause.

I also had a personal goal of knitting 10 gillets in March, 6 of which I knitted in the last 10 days…😅

Here are the 9 gilets that are for sale and I aim to donate all the profits (at least 65% of the value) to Alzheimer’s Research too.

These are hand-knitted gilets that have been knitted with love and are priced at £150.

The knitting challenge to raise money for Alzheimer's Research has been a truly enjoyable, relaxing, and fulfilling journey. My initial fundraising goal of £500 was met quite quickly, which motivated me to aim higher—and I’m thrilled to say that my second target of £1,000 has also been successfully reached! 😊

I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, and colleagues for their generous donations in support of this important cause.

Beyond fundraising, I also set a personal goal of knitting ten gilets. I’ve just started my tenth, and I look forward to completing it. Despite my work commitments in March, I managed to finish nine beautiful gilets—an achievement I’m incredibly proud of.

As Stephanie Pearl-McPhee wisely said, “I believe knitting is a transformative and intriguing act that can change the life and brain of the person doing it, and that knitting is a perfect metaphor for life and insight into some better ways through it.” I couldn’t agree more.

DAY 30 - I must admit I love this Sherpa Blue gilet, but the Primary Grey is a classic colour bursting out with snippets of other colours, which I adore more. As you can see, I've started on the Primary Grey and currently on the second pieces. Let's see where I'm at tomorrow 😳 here's an interesting fact, the word "knit" is derived from the old English cynttan, which means "to knot".

DAY 29 - The Sherpa Blue gilet is coming along really well, I now need to stitch the pieces together and the complete garment will be revealed tomorrow.... I'm not sure if any of you are members of a knitting social networking community. One site that has had many members is 'Ravelry' with over 3 million members worldwide since 2013. It's a network for those who knit, crochet, spin and weave.

DAY 28 - I'm so in love with the Mellow Mauve colour, it's sort of reminds of the colour of the flowers on blossom trees... Just dreamy! I came across French knitting the other day, and found the longest French knitting is 17.36 miles (26.33km) long by Edward Hannaford, based in Sittingbourne, UK. He has been working on the French Knitting since 1989 and is still working on it. I wonder what he would or could use it for? 😀

DAY - 27: I'm loving the Mellow Mauve colour, it's quite dreamy. I should hopefully have this stitched tomorrow. Did you know, the term ' Stitch-n- Bitch' has been used at least since WWII to refer to social knitting groups. It is also the title of 2003 Knitters Handbook. Scholars note that these social groups often act as a form of resistance to major political, social and technological change in Western societies.

DAY 26 - Space Black gilet completed, six completed so far..... I'll start on another one this evening. I love working with big knitting needles and interestingly, Jeanette Huisinga own the world's largest needles. Each needle weighs 25 pounds and stands at 13ft 75in long. Huisinga had to knit a 10x10 square with gigantic needles to qualify for the title. 😱

DAY 25 - Finally, the completed 'Lipstick Red' gilet and I have started the next gilet in 'Space Black'. I came across an interesting fact by the writer, Stephanie Pearl-Mcphee, "in the nineteenth century, knitting was prescribed to women as a cure for nervousness and hysteria. Many new knitters find this this sort of hard to believe because, until you get good at it, knitting seems to cause those ailments. The twitch above my right eye will disappear with knitting practice ". On that note, I've never felt so amazing! 😀

DAY 24 - I've completed all the pieces and just need to stitch them together. I shall, no doubt present the finished gilet tomorrow. In the words of Elizabeth Zimmerman (and I concur): "Handknitting is a dreamy activity, built into many people's thumbs and fingers by genes already there, itching to display their skills and achievement possibilities". Seven more days of knitting left for this challenge and despite having knitted everyday in March, I don't think I'm going to reach my personal goal of knitting 10 gilets, although, I will do my best! I have now raised £875, way above the target I set and now I'm focussing on reaching £1,000! 😀
