The streets were filled with cafés, pubs, clubs, and small rooms packed with people trying to make a living. French and Italian coffee houses brought a new way of living, espresso, conversation, long hours at tables. Immigrants, artists, labourers, s*x workers, small time criminals, and writers all shared the same space
Money, class, and background did not matter here. You could sit next to a painter, a journalist, or someone with nothing, all in the same room.
Dylan Thomas famously drank in The Wheatsheaf and although not technically Soho itself it’s close enough
