Tamara comes from an eclectic background that has always been a strong part of her identity, and has had a massive influence on who she is as a designer. Brought up in the heart of London by a Fijian Indian mother that has a vivacious love of life, travel and colour to an almost overwhelming extent. She had no choice but to keep up with her enthusiasm and go along for the ride. This was until four

years ago, when she met her husband, Jack, who decided to literally turn her world on its head - and introduced her to the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of Melbourne, Australia, where they are now based. After studying Printed Textile Design for Womenswear at Central Saint Martins, she fell down the weird and wonderful rabbit hole that lead to world of ballroom dancing. She has now been a dance wear designer for nearly 8 years - three years in London at Chrisanne, working on various projects including Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice and Britain’s Next Top Model, and for 5 years in Melbourne at June Designs, designing for Dancing With the Stars Australia. On starting her own label, it was inevitable that a sense of drama, movement and vibrancy would infiltrate into her own work . She makes one off pieces for clients ranging from race wear, wedding dresses to performance pieces. She says: ‘I like my designs to reflect an idea of Assertive Femininity. I use the silhouettes of my garments to enhance and flatter the female form, in all the assortment of shapes and sizes it comes in. I use colour ways, textures and embellishments make my garments completely unique and to suit the individual.’

It’s been a while! 😌❤️

My kiddos have been off for the whole summer so I’ve been busy wrangling for the last couple of months. Finally yesterday they both went back to school, and I could come to my studio and start getting some work done ❤️

Ahhh it’s good to be back in my space. However short lived…I have to pack up as I’m moving to a new space near portobello road at the end of the month! ❤️❤️❤️

The last couple of months have been taken up by working on a project with the second year costume students at London College of Fashion. Their first experience of working on a live opera project, a production of Cendrillon for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

So very proud of how these students took this opportunity and in a very short time period with a minimal budget, came up with such beautiful designs and costumes. They sourced garments and altered them, designed and had their own fabrics printed, hand made ballgowns with meters and meters of tulle petticoats, problem solving all the way 💖 Seeing them grow in confidence as makers and designers is so rewarding x

Lots of long hours, trips up and down to Birmingham for fittings at 6am, and then as always, a show comes together at the last minute 💖💖💖

I’ve been given a new project that’s very exciting 🧡

It’s a quick turn around, but lots and lots of detailing. So it’s a challenge.

But very fun….

Tailoring, a long train, bright colours, feathers AND lace. Because why not? 😉

There’s something very special about designing dresses for your longest running client.

The first dress I designed for Paula was nearly 20 years ago now. In that time we’ve seen each other through some of life’s biggest ups and downs. Chatting, munching on tea and biscuits and sometimes talking through tears during fittings. There is a trust and level of communication that comes through years of getting to know someone. Their likes and dislikes. The ability to communicate truthfully and without judgement of each other during the design and making processes is so very rare and incredibly valuable.

To be still making dresses for you feels like an such a privilege and I’m so happy to also call you a dear friend ❤️

Chrisanne Clover red crepe panelled dress layered with black stretch net. Hand embellished with black guipure lace, Swarovski crystals in a range of reds and shades of black and gunmetal, and red glass bugle bead tassels with Swarovski gem stones. Hem finished with 15cm extra wide crinoline for additional flare.

One of my favourite classes to teach at LCF is my class in Sustainable Embellishment 🩷

Taking materials from the recycling bin, and changing the way you look at a milk bottle. Using it for the beautiful alabaster plastic rather than as a container, and transforming it into something unique to embellish a garment 😌

Recently Balmain showed flowers cut from discarded water bottles, cut and placed as decoration on a couture dress… guess what Balmain, I did it first 😉
