Designed as part of Thierry Mugler’s iconic Fall 1989 collection, this tangerine jacket was seen in the campaign for this season on supermodel Naomi Campbell in yellow and set against the New York city scape. Signature architectural detailing abounds in the construction of this cocktail jacket with its curved lapels and wide, padded waistband that forms a wave around the body. The waistband gives way to a wide belt that fastens with a large tonal buckle to the right hand side.

Emanuel Ungaro founded his Parisian couture house in 1965 after a brief stint working for both Cristobal Balenciaga and Andre Courreges. He was known for his lively prints and excellent craftsmanship and reached the height of his fame in the 1980s. This stunning gown walked the runway as part of Ungaro’s Spring 1986 collection. It is tailored from fluid Italian silk-satin in a vibrant fuchsia hue and detailed with tonal polka-dots. The gown has billowing sleeves, a high-neckline at the front and rear, and cut-out shoulders. The high-neck ties at the back in a large floppy bow above a sensuous open-back.

This evening gown is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. There are no size or composition labels. Vintage sizes vary hugely so it is best to check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We think it suitable for sizes up to a UK 10-12 or US 4-6 with plenty of room in the bust.

Julien Macdonald’s Fall 2013 collection was inspired by Las Vegas, with each glittering, intensely detailed look named after a casino there. The collection led Vogue to pose the question, “Is Macdonald Britain’s answer to Bob Mackie? After this collection, maybe so.” The collection showcased Macdonald’s carefully honed eye-for-detail, and he smothered dozens of evening gowns with sequins, rhinestones, beads and chains. As astonishing as they look on the catwalk, these are dresses that must be seen up close.

This dress is a one-of-a-kind and the showpiece, walking the runway as look 10/34. Tailored from a fine mesh in the palest peachy n**e hue, the elaborate beadwork is cleverly placed across the body; revealing, but only so much. Panels of electric blue and black palette beads skim the body, flashing aqua as they catch the light. The long mesh sleeves are beaded on one side and the top back of the dress is formed of sheer mesh - making it appear as though the beadwork is attached to the wearer’s skin.

This pretty dress walked the runway as look 20/37 of Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2005 collection. For this collection, McQueen was inspired by the 1975 film Picnic at Hanging Rock and the whimsical, Edwardian-era innocence of the costumes. This floaty empire-line dress is tailored from a patchwork of semi-sheer, lightweight cottons. Printed with paisleys, embellished with yellow lace and patterned with blown-up yellow roses, they lend the dress a 1970s pastoral feel.

This timeless wool coat walked the runway as Look 34/76 in Valentino Garavani’s Spring 2003 collection. The collection had a 2000s-does-1960s feel and this coat leans into that. Tailored from cream wool, it has an open front which closes with an elaborately crafted circular brass clasp and a small tonal zip above the clasp. These brass clasps were an elegant touchstone throughout the collection and mentioned in the Vogue review at the time. This coat is accompanied by a matching skirt that was not featured on the runway.

This babydoll mini-dress walked the runway as part of Julien MacDonald’s Spring 2003 collection. It is crafted from a pretty, white broderie anglais to a body-hugging silhouette and the miniest mini length. The bust is shaped and trimmed with ruffles. It laces up the front - from the mid-waist to the neckline - with white cotton through silver-tone metal eyelets. The skirt has a drop-waist and is adorned with five ruffled layers of broderie anglais.

This stunning gown is from Sarah Burton’s Resort 2011 collection for Alexander McQueen. One of the designer’s first collections for McQueen after the eponymous founder’s passing, Vogue praised the “blood-drenched chiffon” of this dress and mentioned Isabelle Adjani in the film La Reine Margot as a possible reference.

This rare and early Dolce and Gabbana cropped floral blouse is from the Spring 1994 collection. This print and cropped design featured predominantly in the collection and the designers, during a press presentation, reported that they had been inspired by ancient southern Mediterranean cultures.
The extraordinary trumpet sleeves that are edged in passementerie black trim with little toggles which are also echoed around the neck. The sleeves have been gathered. It has a wide scoop neckline and a front fastening button stand with six pearlescent buttons. It is made from a 100% rayon fabric with the floral print predominantly in purple, red, and green against a black background.
This exact print and cropped design featured predominantly in the collection and the designers, during a press presentation, reported that they had been inspired by ancient southern Mediterranean cultures.

Bought alongside other labelled Dior haute couture pieces, we believe this elegant black velvet gown to also be a Christian Dior haute couture dress from the Fall 1984 collection. We have attached a runway shot from this presentation showing a very similar designed gown and what appears to be the back of a suit in the same fabric.
The dress is wonderfully crafted with many hand-finished details and it showcases the fashion house’s tailoring know-how. A deceptively simple piece that you will wear time and time again, it has a flattering nipped-in waist and fishtail skirt with soft pleats at the rear. The tight cuffs and contrasting, billowing shoulders form a dramatic shape. The V-back and slash neckline really set this piece apart.
