For we pay homage to our history in urban planning. We're in London this week, peeking under bridges, where artists make magic so that pedestrians can not only feel safe, but experience the wonder of industrial heritage.

Have you ever seen iron beams that look prettier than these?

Have you met our boyfriend/girlfriend shirt, WALTER? Inspired by menswear, it's a more accommodating fit on the body, but still feminine.

Why can't you feel both comfortable and beautiful? That's what we were asking ourselves when we designed this shirt.

As we close out his birthday month, this , we're giving a nod to the designer who started it all, Walter Gropius.

Our hero piece remains WALTER, the first one we designed - the pioneer - in honour of the man. It was the product of a vision, to reinvent the tailored shirt for women. To create the ultimate timeless staple that combines form and function. A true foundation for your wardrobe. A piece that would be a fitting tribute to the architect and Bauhaus founder.

We're delighted to say, it's become exactly that.

These words of Walter Gropius appear on the inside label of the shirt that bears his name, because this is exactly what we wanted to give our woman. Boldness, truth and freedom. A canvas for her self-expression.

Today, we tip our hats to the original visionary: Walter Gropius. The famous architect and founder of the Bauhaus school of design was born , 18 May, in 1883.

Walter Gropius was one of the fathers of modern design thinking. What we accept as the pinnacle of great design - when form meets function - grew from his vision to make art tangible, useful, functional, and accessible to all.

The Bauhaus mission to combine art and technology is what SoMo strives to bring to women's clothing. Our story, our method and our spirit have been so heavily influenced by the Bauhaus. We owe this man more than the tribute of dedicating our first ever piece to his name. We owe him a game-changing concept that celebrates his legacy.

Thank you, Walter, for your great contribution to the world we live in. We're working hard to do you justice.

One of our latest MARIANNE purchasers told us how much she loved the quality of our buttons. She just received hers this week, from the pre-order she placed in March. (Quick turnaround, eh?) She said, "The buttons are of such high quality! And they haven't got a thread out of place." Yes, ma'am, we know. We invest in our trims and construction. Our buttons are double-stitched, so that you don't have to worry about them falling out with intensive wear. It's because we expect you to do exactly that. We know how you .

That's also why we don't give you the extra button sewn into the garment label. We're confident you're not going to need that back up.

In case you missed that from a previous post, here's the visual for your enjoyment, again. Or get one, and see it up close for yourself? Just a suggestion. 😉

Shaking it up for , we're putting out a quotation from one of our favourite shakers: the formidable , Zaha Hadid.

Zaha was the first woman to win some of the industry's most sought-after awards, including the as well as 's Royal Gold Medal. She was famous for not allowing the details to constrain her vision. (A former professor explained, "She knew she could fix that later. She was right.")

By all accounts, Zaha was unafraid to challenge the status quo. A woman after our own heart.

We love these words of hers. They reveal what's behind the fierce intellect that defines her reputation. A compassion for the human condition.

For this week, we look back to a factory visit from two years' ago. Two years. Feels like yesterday...⁣

Here's our team, discussing the final tweaks to a product. The final . The final frontier.⁣

Our production partner is one of the oldest shirt tailoring factories in Europe. They're based in Portugal, and have been making only tailored shirts for more than 100 years.⁣

Now that's . It's what we rely on. We're always grateful to them for bringing the best of their brains and energy to the project, every step of the way.⁣

Hours of careful, considered, thoughtful process. It's just good design.⁣

We're still roaming around London. Today we're back in an old neighbourhood we used to frequent, the home of .

Delighted to stumble upon an exhibition of an architectural practice that our founder used to work with at -

We wanted to share these words of the Founding Director, Professor Alex de Rijke:

"The history of architecture can be characterised by materials rather than styles. The 18th century was defined by brick, the 19th century by steel and the 20th by concrete."

Guess which one we love? Clue's in the feed.

And since we're feeling generous, all those who get the right answer will get store credit on us. Just to see if you've been paying attention. 😉

Yes, attention to materials is where we started too. It's a root concern of great architecture, and great design.
