HIBOU creations is a brand that celebrates the African fabric through art, fashion, and design. With love, craftsmanship, and dedication, I like to make everything into a piece of art, be it a bag, a piece of clothing, an accessory, or a decoration. My work uses the wealth of colours, textures, and styles of the African fabric to introduce originality and happiness to wardrobes and homes. I didn't set out to make a glasses case.
I just wondered what would happen if I tried.

Bold fabric. A simple shape. A yellow button detail. And suddenly, something that didn't exist before.

My nephew uses his for his headphones.
Someone else uses theirs for glasses.

That's the thing about making something with care... it becomes whatever the person needs it to be.

HIBOU has always worked like this.

A question. An experiment. A result that surprises even me. 🌈

Winter has a way of quieting everything: muting the colours, slowing the rhythm. Some seasons are loud, full of making, selling, sharing. Others are quieter. They’re about listening. Relearning. Remembering why I started.

And then, almost unnoticed, spring begins to stir. Colour returns. Ideas soften. Light lingers a little longer.

I believe creativity doesn’t disappear when we pause. It gathers. It matures. It waits for the right moment.

This space is always about handmade beauty, culture, and stories.

Right now, it’s also about transition, letting creativity re-emerge naturally, like colour pushing through winter grey.
Not rushing. Not forcing. One step at a time. 🌱

🌞 — It was amazing!
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by my HIBOU Creations stall on Carnival day! 💛

It was my first big market in years, and I was honestly nervous, with little sleep and probably the last one to finish setting up… but seeing familiar faces, meeting so many lovely people, and sharing the joy of HIBOU Creations made it all worth it. 🎨✨

Your kind words, smiles, and support meant the world — whether you bought something, browsed, or just came to say hello. I'm feeling grateful for the opportunity, inspired, and just about starting to recover from all the madness that that week was. (in the best way)! 🧵💫

If I start thanking every event or person that led to what I experienced this week, we will go back to the creation of the world.

From the moment the wedding was announced, to the moment my in-laws gave me hope that I could make it to that event by offering their support... To the moment I was able to find a convenient flight considering everything I had on, to the moment I reached out to an old colleague — and the rest is history.

There were hundreds of people involved in this event, and they will all have many stories to tell. I also have many. More than I can sit down to type.

But I will record it somewhere and tell my children, share it with them — because what truly happened is a story of Kindness. One simple act that triggered a chain of events.

When I wake up every morning, I tell myself I will try to make a difference in someone's life today. Even if it's a smile to someone or a compliment — because sometimes we don't know what other people are going through.

A smile.
A little helping hand.
A piece of food.
Purchasing something insignificant for you from someone who seemed strange and asked you several times.
Driving a long way to keep company to an old friend.
Going through a messy drawer to find bluetack.

A difference is a difference — and we don't know how far that little, tiny difference will go.

I feel very emotional as I'm writing this because everything goes straight to the bottom of my heart and from my heart.

I have not necessarily mentioned anyone specific in this post, but some of you will recognise yourselves or what I'm talking about.

I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Ako-DIFANG MENGOT for giving us the opportunity to join them as they celebrated their wedding.

I cannot leave without saying:
- When you're in tune with yourself, you attract in your life people who will tune with it.
- Always try to see another side of a story that upsets you — just changing perspective can go a long way.
- Be kind.
- Always believe in what you can accomplish, despite the challenges and sometimes the sacrifices (e.g. my body has given in).
- Be grateful, always.

I'm really excited and I can't wait for this, as it will be my biggest event for a few years. It's slow getting back into the swing of things, and I'm dreading it, of course, but I'm loving the process. I’ve been experimenting more, developing new products, and exploring new tools (like AI) to support my creative journey. I can’t wait to share it all with you!
