Since my children are outgrowing their wardrobe at the speed of lightning, I’m finding myself doing what I love … sewing🥰.

Since I’m making multiple garments at same time, using various fabrics, it’s really easy to get confused in the plethora of colours and patterns. So I’m using a nifty little trick I have learned from an Ukrainian blogger.

Had to make up and adjust as I went to make this template. So if you want to learn here’s how:

🖨️Print technical drawing of the garment you want to make on plain paper (or A4 shipping label sheet)

✂️Cut out all negative space so you’re left with apertures to be able to see fabric behind your drawing

🩹Stick your cutout to a sheet of stif acetate, being careful to not rip through delicate paper

🥳you now have a nifty little gadget.

For ease of use you could also cut out various accessories such pockets, collars, yolks, etc., to see how would these look in contrasting fabrics.

📸after layering all your design and fabrics don’t forget to take pictures for later reference.

So my lovely neighbor saved leather from going to land field and kindly gave it to me.
A piece had a hole in the middle so I decided to turn it into a feature and put a piece of felt behind it.
With some embroidery thread decided to stitch chaotically around the hole but then….
It all went a bit awry, scissors away! So the aim was to turn it in to some microorganism landscape.
Planing to turn it into a tote bag. Colourful fabric will line the bag.
Will come back with results.

This was done using an ordinary sewing machine and it’s commonly referred to as free motion machine stitching.
