TRENDS – Chase Them or Leave Them?

Do you, like many women, often feel like you're always behind when it comes to fashion? The moment you open social media, information starts pouring out of your phone telling you that this season these colours are fashionable, these jeans are fashionable, and this style is a must-have.

Meanwhile, your wardrobe is still full of last year's "trends" that you barely wore. But you're already rushing to buy the next new trend because you don't want to be left behind with the fashion stragglers. You keep trying to catch up with the fashion train, but your bank account gets smaller, your wardrobe gets fuller, and somehow you still have nothing to wear.

Let me tell you something: trends have nothing to do with personal style.

You cannot build personal style from trends alone. In fact, they can do you more harm than good. For example, if you don't know what suits your body shape and you're shorter with shorter legs, buying this season's big trend – Barrel Leg jeans – might simply make your legs look crooked. And instead of looking fashionable and stylish, you may end up looking like a caricature of yourself.

So let me briefly explain how trends are created and how long they actually last.

Years ago, trends could last five years or even longer. Today, some barely survive for three months. Just imagine how quickly you would need to change the contents of your wardrobe to keep up. At this point, you don't need a wardrobe anymore – you need a whole garage to store all these "fashion must-haves".

And this happens because, in the past, people would maybe read one fashion magazine a month, if they were lucky. Today, thousands of photos, thousands of influencers and endless content pass before our eyes every single day. What looked new yesterday already feels old today.

And trends are not simply something designers sit down and invent in their heads before forcing them into people's wardrobes. What young people wear gets noticed by designers and eventually appears on the catwalk. Society's mood is also closely watched. For example, during economic crises, minimalism tends to become popular.

# # Why Does It Feel Like You Can Never Keep Up With Fashion?

Because the truth is, you're not supposed to.

The fashion industry machine moves at lightning speed. If it used to move like a bicycle, today it races like a Formula 1 car. And the faster it moves, the bigger the profits become, because people keep trying to catch up and work out what's fashionable.

That's exactly where the trap is.

Once you're hooked, you'll never catch up. Because nowadays there is so much going on that almost everything is fashionable.

The funny thing is that the most stylish and elegant people often look the least fashionable.

Style begins where the constant chasing of trends ends.

That's why the most elegant people don't necessarily buy more clothes. They simply know what suits them, what they want their clothes to say about them, and what image they want to create.

And honestly, that's all it takes.

When there's peace and order in your wardrobe, you can add trends like a seasoning to a meal. A little bit can make things more interesting. But trends should never play the main role in your wardrobe.

So if you're tired of running after the fashion machine, send me a private message.

I'll help you build your own personal style so you can finally look stylish, express your individuality and save a lot of money along the way.

I'll create a personalised Style Guide based on your body shape and your personality.

Is your body and face fashionable today?

Is your body and face fashionable today?
Have you noticed that there are not only clothing trends, but also face and body trends? Every era had its own “fashion” standards for both the face and the body — standards women tried to squeeze themselves into in every possible way, and still do today.

When you really think about it, it looks kind of ridiculous — people want to package their uniqueness into an “Instagram filter.” Society’s paradox: everyone wants to be unique, yet puts all their effort into looking like everyone else. I still can’t find the logic in that. What about you?

Do you remember Rubens’ paintings, where he portrayed fuller women who probably looked better lying down than standing up. Maybe that’s why he painted them lying down? (Just my little joke.)

And back then, that was the body “trend.” Why were those women considered beautiful?

During the Baroque era, being skinny was often associated with: poverty, llness, hard physical labour,
lack of food.

A fuller body, on the other hand, meant: you had money, you could afford good food, you lived in luxury.

That’s why Rubens-style women were seen as the “aesthetic of luxury.”

There was a time when a high forehead was considered a sign of intelligence. Women would even shave back their hairline to make their forehead appear higher.

There was also a trend where women shaved off their eyebrows and drew them back on with pencil.

There was a time when thin lips were fashionable, so women would even line their lips slightly smaller than their natural lip line with lipstick. (Take a closer look at the photos attached to the post.)

Right now, what’s fashionable is: a sporty body, bigger buttocks, fuller lips, sharp cheekbones.
And people do all sorts of things: tattoo their eyebrows,
pump their lips, get fillers.

The whole beauty industry machine is basically shovelling money from naive girls and women who simply want to be beautiful. And nobody talks about how many faces get ruined after surgeries and fillers.

So my question to you is: if cosmetic surgery, lip fillers and all these things seem “cool” to you right now, what will you do when beauty standards change and your body becomes unfashionable?

That’s exactly how it works — you save money at the expense of your health.
And this is not just another scare story (the internet is already so full of them it’s scary to even open a browser anymore). This is information backed by research.

A study carried out in Germany tested 56 pieces of clothing from Shein. In 18 of them, dangerous chemical substances were found exceeding European Union safety limits. Lead, formaldehyde, phthalates, and other hormone-disrupting chemicals were detected. And it’s the same story with clothes from Temu.

I won’t even start listing the illnesses these substances can cause… Honestly, I felt sick just reading the list of chemicals.

When I hear the word “formaldehyde”, I instantly picture museum exhibits where real human organs are preserved in jars filled with this chemical. It’s the same substance used in anatomy labs and embalming.

And “fast fashion” uses this chemical so clothes crease less and don’t develop a mouldy smell during transportation.

Sounds horrifying, doesn’t it? But hey — at least your dress stays wrinkle-free…

Maybe you’re thinking: “So what? I’m not eating the clothes.” But they sit directly on your skin. You sweat, your pores open, and all of that ends up entering your body.

And don’t think washing the clothes solves the problem. These chemicals are used during the fabric manufacturing process, meaning they are deep inside the material — not just sitting on the surface.

So here’s my advice: grab a big rubbish bag and clear out the junk in your wardrobe. And next time your hand reaches to press that “buy” button for another cheap little t-shirt, cheaper than a cup of coffee, picture that jar with preserved human organs I mentioned earlier. Trust me — the desire to wear that outfit will disappear instantly.

Real style begins with respect for yourself and your body. With consciously choosing the clothes you wear.

Where do these women even find such awful clothes?

Who even designs and sews them? Why do they dress like this — don’t they even have a mirror at home? These were thoughts spinning in my head while watching women walking down the street.
But soon my inner controller appeared and started shaming me: why are you judging these women? Don’t you remember how you used to walk around in potato sacks? When comfort was your number one value, when in your rush you would throw on whatever your hand grabbed first from the wardrobe, when you was afraid to look into the mirror because you felt ashamed to see yourself.
I had a pile of excuses: “ah, tomorrow will do,” “right now I need to spend money on other things,” “I am not going to waste money on expensive clothes.” I remember that feeling of shame when, messy and wearing worn-out tracksuits, you run into a shop and suddenly meet someone you know, and you want to hide under the store shelf because you are embarrassed by your appearance. Because you feel more like a scarecrow than a woman who respects herself.

I believe many women go through the same thing. When pointed heels were replaced by sneakers, when working from home at the computer you never get out of your pyjama trousers or leggings. The pyjama party has already lasted too long… Unless for a Zoom meeting you throw a blazer over stretched-out T-shirts. You forgot what it means to dress up. Comfort became the constant companion of your style, and you don’t notice how this “comfort” quietly, piece by piece, destroys your identity. You feel like you are slowly sinking into a comfortable sofa wearing pyjama pants.

You no longer know what you like, you no longer know what suits you. “The way you live is the way you look” — but I would rearrange this sentence: “the way you look is the way you live.”

Clothes are a powerful tool. Once you start changing your clothes, your life starts changing too. The right clothes are the key that unlocks many doors. Discovering your own style and signature is a radical transformation in every person’s life.
But most often we dress in order to hide ourselves, not to express ourselves. The problem is not your body, which is constantly blamed for being either too fat or too thin. The problem is the lack of connection with yourself. How can you express yourself if you do not know yourself? Maybe you have never truly met yourself.
I invite women who are searching not only to change their clothes, but to meet themselves — their new “self,” who knows how to express herself and show herself to the world, instead of hiding her insecurities under shapeless sacks or trying to deceive herself with smaller-sized clothes.
