Snorkelers and divers are in for an interesting find when they go underwater near John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. An eight-and-a-half-foot, 4,000-pound bronze sculpture called “Christ of the Abyss” sits 25 feet beneath the surface at a site called the Key Largo Dry Rocks. The statue is a replica of sculptor Guido Galletti’s “Il Cristo Degli Abissi,” which is submerged off the coast of Genoa, Italy, as a memorial to sailors lost at sea.

These Cheetah cubs didn't seem to be enjoying the afternoon downpour. They ran close together as they tried to keep up with mum. I'd like to say that I kept dry taking this image but in order to capture the moment I had to lean out of the window, allowing the stair-rods of water into the vehicle and got drenched by doing so. Worth it though.

“There are four runways at San Francisco’s International Airport (SFO). This is a rare look at the approach end of runways 28 left and right. I had dreams of documenting the motion at SFO and [arranged] permission to fly directly overhead. What a windy day it was. Winds at SFO were 35-45 miles per hour, which meant a bumpy flight, and it was much harder to control the plane while photographing. The flight was challenging, but it was also so thrilling that I couldn’t sleep for several days afterward.”

Despite its small size, the Lapland town of Mårdudden offers an impressive network of snowmobile trails that lead up to the Arctic Circle. It’s ideal terrain for visitors to explore, thanks to locals who pitch in to groom the trails. For most of the winter, the region’s slender woodland conifers are laden with snow, causing them to stoop and bend, creating an array of unique shapes known as ‘snow ghosts’.

A layer of low clouds covers the alpine valleys of northern Italy, just south of Lake Como. The clouds are just dense enough to hide uniformly the valley and also filter the artificial lights below like they were an opaque blanket. Above the layer, moonlight and high cirrus clouds make the night less dark. You can easily recognize the round shape of Lago di Olginate and the lights of the villages all around its banks.

A young male, when he reaches sexual maturity, is no longer welcome among his female relatives. He walks the landscape alone, at least until he can ally himself with other young bulls. Lessons learned in upbringing help to guide him. This 17-year-old, recently parted from his family group in the Samburu National Reserve, is adjusting slowly; he still sometimes revisits the family for tusk wrestling with his former playmates and younger siblings.
