REMEMBER, REMEMBER…BE Safe

This Fireworks Night have fun. Make great memories. But above all, BE Safe.

As two Dads, we’ve done dozens of displays with our own kids. You can’t be careful enough.

Injury figures advise the safest place to enjoy fireworks is at large public displays – with far fewer injuries than smaller family or private parties.

That said, if it’s going to be fireworks at the end of the garden, be extra safe!

LONDON FIRE BRIGADE advise:

- Only buy fireworks with a CE mark, from licenced retailers.
- Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.
- Keep fireworks in a closed box and use one at a time.
- Read the instructions on each firework using a torch.
- Light firework at arm’s length with taper and stand back.
- Always supervise children around fireworks.
- Never return to a firework once it has been lit.
- Light sparklers one at a time with gloves, near a bucket of water.
- Never give sparklers to a child under five years old.
- Don’t put fireworks in pockets and never throw them.
- Don’t let off fireworks after 11pm.
- Always keep pets indoors.

This year’s theme is 'Let’s Connect’

Being the weekend and half term next week provides a great opportunity to connect with our children, family and friends.

'Let’s Connect’ is about making meaningful connections for all, during Children’s Mental Health Week – and beyond.

When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. And when our need for rewarding social connections is not met, we can sometimes feel isolated and lonely – which can have a negative impact on our mental health.

For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, (the charity behind it) are encouraging people to connect with others in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways.

They have lot's of free resources and tips on their website that will help you explore mental health and wellbeing with the children and young people around you so please check out for more information...
..and if you're stuck for something to do this half term they have some great activity ideas to help raise money. It's a win win!

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED…FLY, FLY AND FLY AGAIN.

We all make mistakes. Even rocket scientists!  But yesterday the NASA Artemis I rocket is 3rd-time lucky and successfully launched its uncrewed mission around the moon!
Why not share this important space mission with your child? And help them keep an open mind. Success is great – but we often learn even more from our mistakes.
