Why did I do a bridal bo***ir shoot just hours after hearing my brother had died?
Two years ago, I did a bridal bo***ir photoshoot just hours after my brother was found dead.
He was 52.
“Why didn’t you cancel?” you might ask.
Because I’ve learned throughout my 24 years as a photographer that sometimes doing the shoot is therapy.
The studio is my sanctuary a place where I can escape, focus, and breathe when life feels unbearable.
And that day, I needed to breathe.
Sometimes, before a bridal bo***ir shoot, I feel as if I’m carrying a thousand bags of stinging nettles in my heart.
I can hardly breathe.
But then I meet you.
Your excitement. Your nerves. Your bravery. Your willingness to step outside your comfort zone.
And somehow, you help me get out of my head.
My work is my friend.
That day, after my brother died, I picked up my camera. I angled the lights. I directed my client into her poses.
And something happened.
My mind found a rhythm.
For a couple of hours, I had relief. Comfort. A rest from my pain.
And strangely, my client that day was a police officer.
She helped me understand some of the difficult, unexplained circumstances surrounding my brother’s death.
Of all the women who could have walked through my door that day… it was her.
Isn’t life strange?
That experience taught me something I’ve never forgotten.
Yes, you might be getting married, and that is pure joy.
But life doesn’t stop happening just because you’re planning a wedding.
You might be grieving. Struggling with your physical or mental health. Carrying something nobody else knows about.
I understand.
Whatever life is throwing at you, when you walk into my studio, you get to put it all down for two hours.
And so do I.
We laugh. We talk. Sometimes we cry.
We build your confidence back up.
And when we pick up that box of worries again, we feel a little stronger, a little lighter, a little more ourselves.
I’m Alexandra Vince, bridal bo***ir photographer for 24 years, helping brides create a wedding gift only they can give: beautiful, artistic, sexy photographs, gift-wrapped “for your eyes only.”
My clients often think I’m there to look after them.
But sometimes, without even knowing it… they look after me too.
And that’s what makes this place so special.
For a couple of hours, we put everything else down.
And remember that underneath everything life is asking of us… we’re human.
And we’re not doing it alone.
