Some honours are worn on the shoulder.
Others are carried in the hearts of the people who helped you earn them.
Nearly five decades ago, as a single mother with two young children, determined to build a better future. Through resilience, hard work and an unwavering belief in her vision, she built not only a fashion business, but a legacy that has touched generations across the British South Asian community.
Behind every milestone were people who opened a door, offered encouragement, challenged an idea, believed when it mattered most, or simply stood beside her through life’s highs and lows.
This intimate dinner was our way of saying thank you.
Around one table sat friends, mentors, collaborators, advocates and family—each with their own stories, memories and shared moments that became part of Mani’s story. There was laughter, reflection, gratitude and the reminder that no meaningful journey is ever walked alone.
The MBE may recognise one individual, but this evening celebrated an entire community that helped make the journey possible.
To everyone who has been part of these last 48 years, thank you.
This honour belongs to all of you.
