This quote from made us chuckle! It’s so very true! 😂

It definitely got us thinking … we put so much thought and prep into the actual labour and birth of our little ones that the reality of how we feel both physically and emotionally postpartum can come as a real shock!

What’s the one thing that you wish someone had told you about the immediate postpartum period?

We often get asked if it’s okay to let your little one nap in their wrap or carrier?

Well quite simply the answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY!

In fact research has shown that it can actually help your baby sleep for longer … How? Well, it shows that when your little one has close contact with their caregiver it can help them to sleep more quietly and for longer periods … a well-rested baby will be calmer and more content than an over-tired one!

Not only that but studies also show that allowing your baby to sleep in their wrap or carrier can be a really positive way to support their sleep development. Babies with positive sleep associations tend to go on to develop healthy independent sleep habits when they are ready.

In other words, if going to sleep is a safe, reassuring and happy time for your baby when they’re little, then they’ll be more relaxed about going to sleep in their own bed when they’re older.

So, if being close to you in a wrap or carrier is what makes your baby’s naptimes happier times, then be reassured … there’s nothing wrong with doing it … Let’s give a 🙌 for the power of wraps and carriers!

I think every new mother can relate to this post … Especially in the fourth trimester which is the first 12 week period after your baby arrives when the focus shifts to them and as a result us mums can overlook our own health and wellbeing.

Newborns take up lots of time and it’s so very easy for new mums to be overwhelmed in the first few weeks by the demands of feeding, sleeping (or lack of), crying and looking after a baby. All of this combined with the physical recovery after giving birth and the changes to hormones, it’s no wonder mums can feel utterly exhausted!

It is just that - exhausting - but it is transient so just remember to not be too hard on yourself, take each day as it comes, accept help and don’t be afraid to ask 💕

What was the one bit of help you found most useful in those early days? ⁣

It’s so lovely when your baby starts to properly smile … but when does that happen? Let’s have a look 😊👇

So it all depends what you mean by smiling. During your baby’s first month or so, you may notice the occasional smile while they are asleep.

You might also see your newborn’s mouth widening into a grin as they try to mimic your own facial expressions while awake however this type of smiling isn’t the real deal yet. In other words, these smiles aren’t smiles that are in response to something.

You’ll have to wait a little longer before you see your baby flash their first real smile, sometimes called a ‘social’ smile.

This will most likely happen sometime in their second month. Until then, be patient and know that eventually you will see it.

To encourage your baby to start smiling and develop those communication skills you could try these tips …

Smile regularly 👉Small babies like to imitate facial expressions, so the more you smile at your baby, the more he or she is likely to smile back.
By responding to your baby's smiles and engaging with your little one in this way, you'll be encouraging his or her development.

Play along 👉Your baby may start a ‘conversation' with you by flashing a wide smile or a big grin to get your attention. Sometimes your infant might wait for you to smile at them first, before responding with a matching smile. This is your baby's way of imitating you. Although it might seem like just playing, imitation is actually an important step in your child's social and emotional development. Try different noises, voices and expressions. Nearly everything your little one sees and hears at this stage is completely new. Your baby probably loves hearing new sounds and different voices. Keep eye contact with your child so they have your undivided attention as you experiment with different facial expressions and noises. This makes it easier for them to copy you. It also means you'll never miss out on any of those amazing first smiles!

Of course always remember that each child develops at different times 💕

When did your little one first smile at you and what were you doing? we’d love to hear! ⁣

When I was a new mum I remember feeling like I was constantly feeding my newborn but DID YOU KNOW your newborn’s stomach is only the size of a HAZELNUT? That’s super tiny!

With that in mind it’s no wonder very young babies need to feed so often – they simply don't have room in their tiny tummies to drink all the milk they need at once!

It also means that even the smallest air bubbles takes up precious space, which is why your baby may need winding during and after feeds.

You’ll be pleased to know that your baby's stomach will grow pretty quickly, reaching the size of an apricot by the end of the first week, and the size of a large hen's egg by the end of two weeks. However, they’ll still need to feed at night until they are at least six months old but I promise it gets easier!

Sending lots of love to all our new mamas out there, you’re doing a fab job 💕 ⁣🙌
