It’s been an honour this week to work on this memory bear for a friend of ours using her dad’s favourite t-shirts.
A very special bear in memory of a very special gentleman who had a huge impact on quite a few people in and around Caerphilly (South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿) .

It’s been a while since I posted on the studio page, I’ve personally had a pretty rough year and have barely sewn for the past few months.
A few weeks ago I was inspired to make a Christmas present for someone (which I’ll share once the recipient opens it). It took a lot out of me but when hubby suggested we could put a real tree in the studio I couldn’t resist making my own tree skirt for it.
Using fabrics from in St Austell this was so much fun to make.
I’ve gone for mostly pinks and purples on the tree, some of the baubles were gifted to me by my mother in law a few years ago, the knitted looking ones happened to jump into my shopping basket while in the other week and there are a couple which I found second hand at .
Now I should also mention that this is not a cut tree, it’s a potted one which I instead to pot on later next year and have the very strong men in my life carry it back into the studio for me again next Christmas!

Clearing out various makes from the studio - pieces I’ve made up as trials but not adding to the studio repertoire, this one off Western Style Short length Kimono created to fit size 12-14 (medium) is made using 100% cotton with a polyester lining and features oversized pockets. It would be a great addition to someone’s wardrobe.

One very special make.
In November last year my parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. My mum decided to get her wedding dress out of storage only to find that it was starting to deteriorate. She managed to salvage some of the lace from it and I offered to make a bear using some of it.
It’s taken me a little while to do it as I have had to slow right down with how I now work.

The main body of the bear is duchess satin (honestly I don’t recommend using this fabric for making bears with - it’s very tricky so I think I’ll stick to using it for clothing in future 🤣).
I hand stitched the smaller lace flowers in place, and added some different texture and colour in using some beautiful pale pink tweed which was very much in fashion during the 1960’s.
Her skirt uses a section of wider lace that was around the waist area of the original wedding dress.
I then decided that the best way for me to finish this lovely little character off was to make the little bunch of felt roses 🌹.

My mum was delighted when she received her wedding memory bear in the post.

This weather is thoroughly depressing at the moment so I thought I’d brighten things up ready for Easter.
Two days of swearing and cursing to make the wreath with artificial flowers from AFS - Artificial Floral Supplies in South Wales , the ceramic bunny in the centre is a paint your own piece from Sainsbury’s and the left over flowers filled one of my favourite vases.
This is my first time playing around with artificial flowers so please don’t judge me!

I then remembered I had some double sided bunting I made when the boys were little which my giant of a teenager put up for me and he chose the Welsh side to show - it reads Pasg Hapus , Happy Easter (maybe one day I’ll make one in Cornish) oh and my little lamb and rabbit (made from a Tilda pattern) are sitting safely on one of the higher shelves where the dog can’t reach!
I do want to try and make an Easter tree I just need to go foraging for a perfect bit of tree branch to use for it when it stops raining!!

My furry supervisor is at kennels today for some extended play time so I’m taking the opportunity to sort out the studio - with a lot of focus on my fabric cupboard. With a little bit of inspiration from a facebook group I decided to take some time to fold my fabrics using recommended comic boards.
So far I’ve separated into dress fabrics, craft fabrics and Christmas fabrics. Some of the fabrics I have will be far too much for comic boards so I will be sourcing bolt boards for those later on.

So I’m still on my Christmas break (but then again a designers mind never shuts down does it?!) but a few days before Christmas we whisked our boys away to Watford to go do the Harry Potter Studio Tour and onto London to do a bit of shopping and see the lights.
I couldn’t resist popping into Liberty of London where I treated myself to a gorgeous new pincushion made in Liberty print fabric.
It’s going to sit very nicely on the cutting table in the studio 🪡 🧵
