we design and make clothing at NinaHQ but we also love to skill share. Morning, afternoon, evening and weekend classes. Something for everyone from the experienced seamster to the absolute beginner :) Once you've started there will be no stopping you! ABOUT NINA:
Nina taught dressmaking leisure courses at the University of Highlands and Islands for 10 years before Covid lockdown hit and she chose

to focus time on clothes design and making to order. Nina has worked in clothes making and design for over 9 years, and before returning to Elgin to establish NinaHQ, she worked in various industry sectors including High Fashion, Bridal-wear, Knitwear, Alternative Fashion, and Film/TV/Music Video/ Theatre Costumes. Whilst in London she worked on costumes for many productions, films such as The King's Speech, Brighton Rock, Hugo, Never Let Me Go, Harry Potter, Bel Ami, The Sorcerers Apprentice, Pirates of the Caribbean 4... and television shows such as Dr Who, Eastenders, George Gently... the list is long :)

I’ve been so busy since I got back that I forgot to add an update!
Birmingham was hectic, fantastic and guess what?!… I only stayed beside the Rag Market! Amazing! I was just limited on my fabric purchases by my bloomin suitcase size 😂
Visited an art gallery, museum, Cadbury world, markets, markets, markets, vintage shops, an antique shop or two, oh and had the most amazing cocktails!
Time with friends well spent! ❤️

Been thrown in to the deep end of bridal season since I got back. So excuse my wild eyes and mad hair if you see me about 😂 approach with caution 😜

Ok guys, let’s talk Summer holidays…

NinaHQ will be closed this Friday (5th June) morning through to Monday (8th June) evening, as I will be taking a wee break to visit University friends as a bit of a summer escape!
I’m only off to England but I haven’t been on a plane since pre-Covid so a little nervous (and excited) to get back to my old travelling ways. I may take another break later in the summer but know I will be managing my workload and still very much dedicated to meeting client deadlines. ❤️

I will be trying hard to take time away from my work phone over the weekend so please bare that in mind. If you need me, either message before this Friday or after Monday!

Thanks so much for your support. ❤️ I love NinaHQ and have had a particularly fantastic few weeks of class groups, one to one tuition and client fittings. But a wee weekend escape will do anyone good. :)

That was the final week of the latest NinaHQ Beginners Machine Sewing daytime class.
And to finish the course they made these adorable zip purses. Fully lined and with nice squared bottom.
Not only that, they also had fun with the buttonhole foot, learning to set it up and use both a manual and fully automatic buttonhole foot.
What an impressive bunch of talented students!

What an amazing kid! I would love this bag and use it with pride in every shop. 🙂
We will be moving on to making clothes for dolls next! Exciting to see this wee sewing star progress ❤️

Beginners Machine Sewing
Wednesday,
6pm-8pm,
4 weeks,
Starts 10th June

Great for complete newbies or those wanting a refresher. Bring your own machine or hire one for a small fee.

Course:
We look at machine parts and how it works, cleaning and maintenance, threading, choosing needles and threads, balancing tension, before sewing a range of swatches to demo different seams, hems and techniques. Then in the last week we usually enjoy a complete Make project such as a zip purse.

I have a lovely wee 7 yo homeschooler coming to NinaHQ for a weekly lesson and look at what she has achieved in just two weeks of working on decorating this tote bag.
Felt petals stitched on, embroidery in the centre and then stacks of beading added so it has some movement. And yes she did the beading herself!!
More to come over the next few weeks as she adds a 3D rainbow using couching embroidery stitch, amongst other details to her bag.

It's so impressive for her tiny hands and huge concentration skills to manage!

So how young is too young in the UK to be employed? 😂
(Joking! No kids were hired!)
