A little break from the pine.

Signed by the artist, Bryant, this feels like one of those mid-century floral studies that would once have hung in a sitting room above a fireplace or in a sunny cottage hallway. Before affordable prints became the norm, paintings like this were how ordinary homes brought colour and beauty to their walls.

I love the softness of the colours. The blues, burnt oranges and yellows somehow feel both cheerful and calming at the same time.

There’s something special about owning an original painting. The visible brushstrokes, the texture of the oil and the knowledge that somebody stood in front of a canvas and painted this by hand.

No mass production. No identical copy hanging in hundreds of other homes.

Just one lovely piece of art waiting for its next wall.

I don’t often come across pieces like this.

Part sideboard, part desk, part cupboard, with the biggest, widest drawer I’ve ever seen.

The top drawer measures an impressive 118cm wide and is brilliant for all those things that never seem to have a proper place. Table linen, paperwork, craft supplies, magazines, chargers, even board games.

Below are four generous drawers and a central cupboard, making this one of the most practical pieces of antique pine storage I’ve had in a while.

I could see it working as:
• a sideboard in a dining room
• a hallway storage piece
• a desk in a home office
• a television unit
• or even a kitchen dresser base.

Lovely mellow pine with bags of character and a piece that feels both unusual and timeless.

This old pine table started life as something much taller, probably a kitchen table many years ago, before being cut down and given a second life as the perfect coffee table.

In fact, I have one exactly the same in our French house and we use it every single day.

A brew in the morning.
A pile of magazines.
A book.
A bowl for all the bits and pieces that somehow end up in the living room.
And, if I’m honest, somewhere to put my feet up too.

I don’t get these very often and I always think they’re such a practical alternative to modern coffee tables. Proper old pine, chunky turned legs and bags of character. Swipe to see mine Jo & Tom in France

Not every house has room for a big, deep cupboard.

Sometimes you just need something tall, useful and narrow enough to tuck into that awkward little corner.

This lovely old pine cupboard is just 28cm deep, so it’s perfect for hallways, landings, bathrooms, kitchens or anywhere you need a bit more storage without sacrificing floor space.

I can picture it filled with folded towels, table linen, books, children’s games or all those bits and pieces that never seem to have a proper home.

Some pieces don’t need to be practical. They just need to make you smile every time you walk past them.

This old oak hymn board has spent its life displaying hymn numbers, but I rather love it as a place for favourite photographs, postcards, old letters and little treasures collected over the years.

The warm oak, the bold lettering and all those little ledges make it feel like a memory board rather than a notice board.

I can imagine it in a hallway filled with family photographs, in a kitchen with recipes and postcards, or changing through the seasons with little bits and bobs tucked inside.

Life lately ...mostly of Samos , Greece , June 2026 finishing with some news.

1. Just leave me in Greece ☺️
2. So many cats 🐈 ..had to stop and stroke all of them.
3. View from our 2** hotel room on the island of Samos 🇬🇷..location was absolutely stunning!
4. The rooms were ultra basic but clean and we had everything we needed! We stayed at Glicorisa Beach Hotel near Pythagorio and would go back again in a heartbeat.
5. The island is still relatively unspoilt with so many beautiful, quiet beaches .
6. All the cats were well looked after by locals and visitors alike. Me especially ☺️
7. I took so many videos of beautiful views..Kokkari beach was a highlight ..that blue!! 🩵
8. Anyone else happy just looking at the sea?
9. Samos town (the capital of the island) was equally as lovely..we even took in a bit of culture visiting the archaeological museum..Samos is the birthplace of Hera & Pythagoras.
10. Favourite little village was Poseidonio ..could have stayed forever ..I was mentally buying a little place on the harbour! (One very small house recently sold for 1.2 million so maybe not)
11. Greece seems to just have everything doesn't it? The weather, the beaches, the food and the people. The super yacht belonged to a Greek shipping magnate and football club owner .
12. Talking of food ..fruit platters served at every beach bar 🍑🍓
13. This was the house I really wanted in Pythagoria town! Sadly not for sale..I can dream! Until next time Greece ..I'll be back! X
14. If you want more information on our 2** little secret gem of a hotel ..I've saved everything in my highlights.
15. June was also the month I invested in ŌURA ..so far I'm really liking it.. it's still gathering full diagnostics (takes a few weeks) but the sleep, activity, stress and readiness information is proving invaluable.
16. Our little superstars first school sports day and she did so well! We were whooping from the sidelines 🌟
17. After over 40 years living on this lovely street...we did it! We're up for sale! Not entirely sure of the future but excited for the next chapter! Watch this space!

Some things never go out of style.

A proper chest of drawers is one of them.

No trends. No fuss. Just honest Victorian craftsmanship that’s been doing its job for well over a century.

This is one of those pieces that quietly makes a room feel settled. The warm honey pine, chunky bun feet, rounded top and generous graduated drawers all have that timeless simplicity that’s becoming harder to find.

The drawers run well, the storage is brilliant, and it’s the sort of furniture that earns its place rather than demanding attention.

One of the original wooden k***s has had an old repair, which I’ve shown in the photos. It’s solid and simply part of this chest’s long history.

The secret? Lift the lid!!

One of my favourite things about old bedding boxes is that they still solve a modern problem.

We all have blankets, board games, magazines, chargers, dog leads, children’s toys, or the things we use every day but don’t necessarily want on show.

This little Victorian pine bedding box quietly deals with all of it.

It works beautifully as a coffee table, gives you a handy surface for a brew, and lifts to reveal a surprisingly useful amount of storage.

The colour is gorgeous too. Warm honey pine with all the little knocks, knots and character that only come with age.

It’s one I’d happily keep. ❤️

Once you’ve lived with old furniture, it’s difficult to go back.

Not because it’s older.

Because it feels different.

The smooth drawer runners that have been opened thousands of times.

The little knocks and marks collected over generations.

The solid marble top that has survived countless homes before this one.

It’s furniture with a past, but still plenty of life ahead of it.

These Napoleon III pine drawers are one of those pieces that quietly improve a room without demanding attention.
