# 1. **Are the walks free?**
- Yes, all walks are free.

# 2. **What time do the walks start?**
- Most walks start at 11 a.m. (unless otherwise advertised).

# 3. **How far do you walk?**
- Typically between 3 and 5 miles (unless otherwise advertised).

# 4. **How long do the walks last?**
- Walks generally last between 90 and 120 minutes, depending on the pace and stops. Occasionally, longer "Extended" walks are advertised.

# 5. **Why isnโ€™t there a fixed duration or distance for the walks?**
- Our walks vary and adapt based on the group and the dayโ€™s conditions, so they may change at the last minute.

# 6. **Can I bring my dog?**
- Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

# 7. **Can I bring children?**
- Yes, children are welcome, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

# 8. **Do the walks finish where they start?**

# 10. **Why are the walks free?**

- You can reach us by:
- Clicking the 'Send Message' link on our page.
- Emailing us at **[email protected]**
- Calling us at **07467 834153**
For general questions, feel free to leave a comment, and one of our regular walkers will respond.

# 12. **Why do you not a have a WebSite?**
- We know a website would be useful, but right now we simply do not have the resources to create and maintain one. Websites require: - Time- Money - Technical and Artistic knowledge.
- These are listed in order of what is most precious to us โ€” especially volunteer time.
- We currently use Facebook as our main platform because it is free and allows us to quickly share walk details, photos, and community updates.
- If someone cannot access Facebook, our walk programme can also be found online through Mansfield CVS, at the link they kindly provide. https://www.mansfieldcvs.org/

# 13 ** why do you not walk at weekends?**
# 14 ** why do you not have evening walks?**
- We would like to offer weekend and evening walks, and it has been known to happen. However, due to other commitments, it can be difficult to find the time, and for safety reasons we prefer to have two walk leaders on every walk. There are also plenty of other groups walking at weekends, as many of us are already members of the Ramblers and other walking and hiking groups.

# # Please remember:
- We are a not-for-profit group
- We charge nothing to take part in our walks
- We receive no funding
- Everything we do is voluntary

Helping run the group is part of a positive community service that many of us enjoy and find rewarding.

Wise Walking with Peter ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒณ

Wise Walking with Peter took us across the fields to the Wildlife Rescue UK, before heading back along the Meden Trail and Archaeological Way into Pleasley.

A fantastic four-miler, all enjoyed in the fresh air โ€” around half across the open fields and the other half through the wonderful โ€˜Meden Forestโ€™. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฅพ

And despite the threat of rain, we had a fantastic turnout, with plenty of fun, laughter and constant chatter โ€” which, I have to say, didn't even stop whilst I was trying to eat my fish and chips.
The haddock was absolutely delicious โ€” tasting wonderfully fresh, with the lightest of batter and piping hot to boot. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Someone said something about having a big mouthโ€ฆ surely they weren't talking about me? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thereโ€™s no way I could fit half a White Swan chip and baguette into my petite bouche ๐Ÿคฃ

Whilst saying Thanks, I have to thank everyone in The Swan for the food, fayre and service.

Todayโ€™s walk also meant that, on returning home, my boots needed a good bit of mud clearing from the soles๐Ÿฅพ. But what should I expect after all that thunder, lightning and rain last night๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

A big thank you to Peter for leading, and to Rob for keeping me company at the back and sharing the back-marking duties and the photos. And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such an enjoyable walk. And the laughter was remarkableโค๏ธ

Thanks to Stuart for attempting to lead yesterdays walk BUT lets be honest none of us really wanted to walk in that atrocious weather ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Now we're getting ready for more excitement over the Bank Holiday weekend๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅพ

๐Ÿ’ฆ Wet, Wet, Wet on a Wonderful Day๐Ÿ’ฆ

Well, what do we do on a damp and dismal day?

We walk, of course๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The only exception is if the weather becomes too bleak or conditions are not safe for everyone.

Iโ€™m actually unsure whether todayโ€™s Shirebrook walk went ahead, so if anyone was there, Iโ€™d love to hear how you got on. And if you have any photographs from todayโ€™s walk, please share them with us โ€” it would be wonderful to see them. ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

Iโ€™ve posted some of our wet walk photographs, and the first one, with Sally and Kay, brings back a great memory. There were only the three of us on that walk, and honestly, I thought it was wonderful๐Ÿ˜Š

Especially when the driving rain was behind us๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have to admit, though, that for a short while, when we turned and walked into the full force of it, it was absolutely horrendous๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

But would I do it again? Of course I wouldโค๏ธ

Thereโ€™s something about getting out, getting wet, having a laugh and completing the walk that just makes you feel better afterwards. And that's exactly what walking with good company is all about. ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒณ Tomorrow weโ€™re off to Pleasley NOT at the Pit but down in the village.

Weโ€™ll be wandering from Meden Square in PLEASLEY, before heading into the The White Swan afterwards for a well-earned drink and a chat. ๐Ÿบโ˜•

Sometimes, the wettest walks make the best memories! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

๐ŸšŒ The bus stop is literally at our starting point, so it couldnโ€™t be much easier.

Whatever the weather, weโ€™ll hopefully see plenty of you there.

Walk, talk, laugh and enjoyโค๏ธ๐Ÿฅพ

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฅพ Beautiful and Best of Berry Hill ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒณ

What a beautiful day for a walk around the parks of Berry Hill โ˜€๏ธ

We started by heading past Thompsons Grave, before making our first little detour of the day. The entrance into Berry Hill Park had been chained and padlocked๐Ÿ”’ So, rather than be defeated, we simply took the scenic route and entered through the main gate, complete with its new height-restriction barrier.

The improvements at Berry Hill just seem to be getting better and better, and once the new cafรฉ opens, I think it will be the icing on the cake โ˜•๐Ÿฐ The layout and access road is exceptionally well laid out BUT I still do not understand why so much roadway without supportive parking.

We then made our way through King George V Park on our return journey before finishing at the Oak Tree , where my build-your-own burger was absolutely delicious ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ˜‹ Thanks to Roz and her team.

With such another large turnout it was thankfully that Peter donned the Hi-Viz today, as we had quite a bit of road walking. A big thank you to everyone who joined us โ€” I really hope you enjoyed the walk, the company and, of course, our little Berry Hill adventure๐Ÿ˜Š

Looking forward to catching up with you all again soon.

๐Ÿ“ Tomorrow weโ€™re off to Shirebrook staff sports and social club โ€” another day, another walk, and hopefully another adventure๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ˜Š

Nice but Naughty at Newstead Country Park ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ˜Š

What a wonderful turnout for todayโ€™s Nice and Naughty at Newstead Country Park โ€” and what a pleasure it was having so many of you along with me. โค๏ธ

Todayโ€™s circuit was one that Keith Wallace from On-Your-Doorstep, the original walking group I joined when I moved here, showed me around eight years ago. So there was a little bit of history in todayโ€™s walk too.

I was especially pleased to hear that so many of you had never visited Newstead Country Park before. I loved having you along and I hope you enjoyed discovering somewhere new, even if I did make it a little stressful in places! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅพ

A huge thank you to those who came up front and kept me company, to Rob for backmarking, and to Stuart, who also volunteered to help. It really is appreciated.

๐Ÿ“ธ And a very special thank you to Rob and Iain for the stunning photographs. You captured so many moments that I simply couldnโ€™t, and they really do help tell the story of our walks.

And, most importantly, thank you to every single one of you for coming today. Without you, there would be no Walk and Talk. โค๏ธ

โ˜•๏ธ Finally, a big shout-out to everyone at The Newstead Centre Cafรฉ. Only 15 of us descended on you today โ€” I honestly expected more ๐Ÿ˜‚ I think Iโ€™ll learn not to take our numbers for granted.

๐Ÿ“ If anyone tracked todayโ€™s 4.2-mile route, please do share a copy or post it in the comments. Mine appears to have disappeared into the ether๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ“ฑ

And tomorrowโ€ฆ ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

We wander from 'Roz' pub the Oak Tree PH, and Iโ€™ll be keeping things nice and easy and reasonably level, with just a few gentle hills. The route will be similar to one we enjoyed a few months ago, taking us towards King George V. and Berry Hill Parks.

Thank you all once again for making today such a lovely walk. โค๏ธ

With the weather being somewhat discombobulated, not really knowing what it was going to do, Rob incandescently led us on a blinder of a route ๐Ÿ˜„

We headed up and behind Kings Mill Hospital, around the Mill Pond and onto the viaduct overlooking the Hermitage Nature Reserve. From there, we continued along the Timberland Trail before crossing both the South and North sections of Oakham Nature Reserve, eventually making our way back to the Cockle.

A fantastic route, plenty of conversation and, thankfully, the weather behaved itself for us๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Thank you, Rob, for leading us and the photos.๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Thank you, John and Sarah, for your support ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰
Sarah and Heather for the linguistic suggestions๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜œ.
And thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create that wonderful feeling throughout the walk.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone at the Sir John Cockle for being such great hosts and for the excellent service as always. ๐Ÿปโ˜•

Tomorrow we head off to Newstead and Annesley Country Park for a slightly shorter walk, with the added bonus of a coffee break afterwards at The Newstead Centre Cafรฉ.
Parking and start is in the carpark over the railway line by the fisheries and Pit Micro Pub, NOT in the welfare.
I do suggest decent soles on your shoes due to the uneven ground and although a short walk it is a little hilly with the uneven ground.

Another day, another walk, another reason to get those walking boots on ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks to our walk leaders, weโ€™ve got two more disco socials booked, and weโ€™d love your input to make them amazing.

Have a chat with me or another walk leader while weโ€™re out on the trail, or send over a quick message if youโ€™ve got ideas or want to help out.

Weโ€™d love to hear your thoughts and any other social ideas you have in mind.

First upโ€ฆ what should we call our January social, and are we feeling a buffet or no buffet? ๐Ÿค”โœจ

Thank you all. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถ๐“š๐“ฎ๐“ท

Iโ€™ve just been notified that our page has reached a very special milestone โ€” 2,000 followers ๐ŸŽ‰

I know the number can fluctuate, but it has been steadily rising over the last five years, and I for one am very proud to see us reach this amazing figure.

So, a huge THANK YOU to all our followers, walkers and walk leaders for your continued support. โค๏ธ

Picture Perfect Peafield Lane & Plantation with Peter ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿฅพ

Numbers certainly tell part of the story today, with 26 of us pacing along at a good steady stride to keep up with Peter ๐Ÿ˜„

For once, we even had something to moan about โ€” and that was the sight of some fly-tipping along the route. ๐Ÿ˜ก But thankfully, it didn't stop us enjoying the walk, the conversation or, of course, the obligatory blackberry tasting along the way๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ˜‚

We covered 4.2 miles, we walked, we talked, we ate blackberries and we had fun. Once back at The Coopers at Mansfield Woodhouse, we quenched our thirst and started getting ready for the weekend.

From just eight of us at 10:30, our numbers steadily grew until we were 26. The walk itself took just 1 hour 45 minutes, but with the time spent chatting before and afterwards, around 3ยฝ hours of the day were very well spentโค๏ธ

Our route took us through Peafield Wood, past Westfield House Farm and down towards Leeming Lane North. Once across the road, we crossed the very dry stream at The Bottoms, continued through the hamlet and woodland as far as Park Hall Veterinary Clinic, then crossed the fields towards Manor Park before finishing back at The Coopers.

Thank you Peter for leading us today, thank you Iain for capturing the walk in photographs, and a huge thank you to everyone who joined us. ๐Ÿ‘

And of course, a big shout-out to our host and all the team at The Coopers for looking after us so well. ๐Ÿป

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Next Week's Walks

As we head towards the Bank Holiday weekend at Brierley and into a brand-new month, we have five wonderful walks planned:

๐Ÿ“ Sir John Cockle
Sutton Road, Mansfield NG18 5EU

๐Ÿ“ Newstead & Annesley Country Park
Tilford Road, Newstead Village NG15 0BU
(over the railway crossing)

๐Ÿ“The Oak Tree

๐Ÿ“ Shirebrook staff sports and social club
Langwith Road, Shirebrook NG20 8TF

๐Ÿ“ The White Swan

Five walks, five different places and hopefully lots more walking, talking and laughter! ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ˜Š

We look forward to seeing you next weekโค๏ธ
