What Nobody Tells You About The Morning Of Your Wedding
They tell you it'll be magical. And it is. But here's what they don't mention.
You may be ready earlier than you think. There will be a strange 20-minute window where your hair is done, your dress is on, and nobody quite knows what to do with themselves. Lean into it.
You may also be 40 minutes late, don't stress, it is tradition after all. But make sure you check your hair, makeup, spritz perfume and another layer of deodorant, before leaving your room.
You'll forget to eat. Someone needs to put food in your hand and physically make you eat it. Assign this job to someone the night before . And make sure every time you put it down, they pass you the plate again until you do eat, at this point you may want to wrap the plate around their heads, but they're only looking after you!
You'll cry before you're supposed to. Not at the aisle. In the hotel room. When your mum zips up your dress. When your best friend sees you for the first time. When the flowers arrive and it suddenly feels very, very real. If you're like my sister, you'll just cry looking around the room at all your favourite people (bar your spouse to be), full of happiness and laughter.
It will go faster than you can possibly prepare for. One minute you're doing your makeup. The next someone is knocking on the door saying the car is here.
You will feel everything at once. Excited. Nervous. Emotional. Strangely calm. All of it, simultaneously. That's not wrong. That's exactly right. Go and have 2 minutes peace on your own, collect yourself, have a dance off on your own in the bathroom, sneak a shot or simply take some deep breaths.
Someone will lose something. A shoe. The rings. A button. It will be fine. Chances are it's slipped down the back of the sofa, or a child had claimed it as finders keepers, good luck prizing their squidgy little hands off something you desperately need, so have bribes ready.
And the moment you see them, every single thing that felt overwhelming that morning will disappear. Just like that.
Nobody can fully prepare you for that part either. But it's the best bit.
