This is an organic linen and one we have been working with for a long time. We don’t do a large colour range as it’s already great in natural but we also offer soot, de nimes antique gold and it’s still nice in the bright workwear blue.

This particular fabric is indestructible which was important as linen can be tricky, though obviously we offer lifetime repair as much as I love seeing you guys better that we try to keep your maintenance visits to a minimum.

What are we actually selling in this space was a question I often asked myself prior to opening or second shop in Margate ? Well it's a stand alone space for our menswear, with coffee and vinyl to listen to for a bit of atmosphere but then a collection of interesting objects to sit alongside the things we make ourselves. What you can be assured of is every single item that is in that shop has been in or out of a virtual basket at some time probably with me at 3 am in the morning tretting over it and whether it sends the right message or if I could truly stand in front of you guys and advocate for it. Genuinely am only sticking things I myself and the team use, live or are a big fan of so that helps.

When you have the coolest customers who style our pieces so well it’s an inspiration.

We love skirts but not your average office skirt (at one point way way way back in the aeons of times past I designed skirts for Marks and Spencer…..not that that’s bad, just this is not that. Think of this more like “Logan’s run meets “Little House on the Prairie”

Here you can see the fisherman’s skirt, we have made this skirt also in a short length which is really flattering as you can wrap and tie it several different ways depending on your outfit.

The other great benefit to this style is that as the cooler months creep up on us this is a fantastic piece for layering, I wore mine what thermals AND workout leggings underneath and no one needs to know.

I am always so grateful that I work in a business that I love and offers unlimited scope for development/ learning (play). We have always garment dyed our items and use low impact dyes, manufactured by an independent manufacturer in the UK, using no chemical fixative just salt or bicarbonate of soda but it has always been my aim to add in organic and natural dyes for the people who appreciate them.

For anyone who has worked with natural@dyed you will understand how tricky they are, they often dye irregularly and it’s very time consuming but the appearance is so delicate and especially when dying garments the way it picks up the seam details is quite lovely.

We are currently machine dyeing with organic indigo but we are going to introduce vats in the basement of the Margate store so we can introduce madder and other roots, here are some lightly coloured indigo garments they have proved to be really popular so I wanted to share while we had them….

Scarves and jackets, handwoven textures, made by us in house and hand dyed, hand knitted from textile waste and strips of recycled tee shirts. Not traditional luxury fabrics by a long way but organic, sustainable and produced ethically.

Have mentioned in previous posts that being an inveterate trouser person I used to struggle with the concept of skirts, then seeming too “prissy” and ladylike for the way everyone I knew dressed but gradually we started to develop an assortment that satisfied my stipulation that whatever we Mads needed to be ubiquitous enough that it could be worn on the regular without feeling forced.

When working in the studio I invariably look like a bit of a scruff bag (though I do make an extra effort when I’m in the shops) at the same time I aspire to the levels of polish achieved by the ladies who represent us in the stores and I love that here .charlotte makes a skirt that looks grungey on me look polished and dare I say elegant.

So hopefully representing that even heading into party season you can take these pieces and shine without having to invest in something too “event specific”.

Given the run of gorgeous weather that we are experiencing at the moment it seems anti intuitive to be posting a trench coat ……but it is Britain and I was just so happy with how this turned out. It’s heavy organic cotton and am going to shower proof it so can be used all the year round. This one eventually was dyed black for a customer but I really fancy it in brights, orange, yellow, workwear blue……will post once made. Have a lovely Sunday people…..

FINALLY….wanted to preview with you guys our new shop extension . We love colour and it’s just great to have the extra space to allow the clothes to breath. Am so happy, the whole shop feels so much lighter. It’s always difficult with a small space when you have so many items you want to show but you don’t want too many pieces rammed on rails.
