THE ESSENTIAL WHITE SHIRT | TAILOR & CHESS

A good shirt is one of the foundations of a man’s wardrobe.

Get the fit right and it can lift an entire outfit. Get it wrong and even the best jacket, trousers and shoes can suddenly look less considered.

This white shirt is one of a range of pieces I’m currently developing at Tailor & Chess, exploring what I believe a great everyday shirt should be: clean, masculine, comfortable and properly fitted.

The aim isn’t to reinvent the shirt. It’s to get the important things right — the collar, the proportions, the sleeve length, the shape through the body and the way the fabric sits when worn.

Something smart enough to wear beneath tailoring, but strong enough to stand on its own with a good pair of trousers.

Simple clothes become exceptional when the cut is right.

This is just the beginning of the range. More designs, fabrics and details are currently being developed in the studio.

A little project for myself this weekend, a custom made double cuff black shirt ready for autumn 🍂

My pieces for this week were two custom made cotton shirts with contrasting cuffs and inner collar bands. Both shirts were made for a teacher who struggles to find well fitting shirts off the peg and wanted something he felt both comfortable and stylish in. Each shirt was carefully measured to ensure a good fit while maintaining comfort and movement 🙏

Here are my latest pieces crafted in my studio. Each garment was carefully made for two gents who wanted something unique to match their style and personalities. Each garment was custom made from Bateman Ogden cloth and carefully cut to make sure all the pattern aligned beautifully. I took extreme care with my measurements and pattern to make sure they not only got a comfortable garment, but also something that was elegant and stylish. I love seeing my art come to life when my clients walk away in them ready for their next outing.
