☀️ Mini Members Summer Club is back this August! ☀️

We've got a range of free activities planned throughout the month, including adventure games, Lego workshops, gardening, arts and crafts, park visits and a special ALN quiet session.

Lunch, picnics or food vouchers are provided at selected sessions.
Spaces may be limited, so keep an eye out for further information on how to book.

Our Membership Team are out in the Sunny Bank area of Brecon Road this morning, hoping to chat to some lovely local people and community members.

They are in their big bright gazebo so you won't miss them, pop along for a chat, hear about the projects they're running, and use the opportunity as a chance to say what you'd like to see going on in the area. You can even use the opportunity as a chance to report any repairs you may have.

They will be out until 12:30pm - pop over and say hello!

Our garden celebration continues, and we’ve been out and about meeting members of our community and discovering the many different green spaces they care for and enjoy.

This celebration is about much more than your traditional garden. We want to recognise and celebrate all the ways people bring nature into their lives and brighten the places around them.

It could be a houseplant that’s grown so big it makes you smile every time you walk past it. Or, like one gentleman we recently met, a small strip of grass in an alleyway that he has transformed with wildflowers to bring colour to the area and help prevent fly-tipping. Every growing space has a story, and every effort makes a difference.

These photos showcase just a couple of the more unexpected spaces we’ve come across so far. They may not be traditional gardens, but they’re still cared for, still loved, and still helping to make our communities greener, brighter, and more welcoming places to live.

So whether you have a garden, a balcony, a windowsill, a community planter, or simply a favourite plant you're proud of, pop it in the comments below. There are prizes for each category! ⬇

🔍 Research opportunity with Shelter Cymru

Have you been on a social housing waiting list, been offered a social home, or are you currently living in social housing?

Shelter Cymru is looking to speak to people aged 18+ about their experiences and what they want from a social home. Interviews will last up to an hour and can take place by phone or video call, with a £15 shopping voucher provided as a thank you. Join Trelewis Community Centre us for a fun hedgehog house making workshop and help to support local wildlife in your community.

Merthyr Tydfil Biodiversity Partnership will be joining in to share facts about hedgehogs and local wildlife.

This is a hands on activity and a great way for children to learn about wildlife while helping to create something practical. We'll be building the cosy homes to place around the centre or to take back for the garden🌻.

**Important** As we'll be using screws and screwdrivers children will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult to help with the construction.

Our next round of Grants & Sponsorship funding is now open!

What you need to know:
Our grant scheme is open to both constituted and non-constituted groups -
Up to £3000 for constituted groups.
Up to £500 for un-constituted groups.
or Sponsorship of up to £500.

Any community group, charity, social enterprise or not for profit organisation delivering projects within Merthyr Tydfil are welcome to apply.

Residents at our Community Living scheme at Haven Close recently came together for a project focused on supporting one of the UK's most loved and increasingly vulnerable species, the hedgehog.

Thanks to community benefits funding from our contractors SAM Drylining ltd,
and Joyner Group, 100 hedgehog houses were donated, with four installed at Haven Close during a hands on activity involving residents, colleagues and contractor representatives Jason and Luke.

The session provided an opportunity to learn more about hedgehogs, the challenges they face and the simple actions we can all take to help, from providing food and water to creating safe spaces where they can rest and shelter.

Tenants played a key role throughout the day, helping to choose the best locations for the houses and sharing ideas about how the outdoor spaces can support local wildlife.

Projects like this demonstrate the wider value that community benefits funding can bring, creating opportunities for residents to connect, learn new things and make a positive contribution to their local environment.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success. It's a great example of what can be achieved when tenants, colleagues and contractors work together towards a shared goal.

The Membership Team will be out and about in our communities on Monday mornings over the next few weeks, between 10am and 12.30pm.

This morning we're joined by Lisa, our employment support coordinator, and will be starting in Aberfan, spending some time in the Aberfan Leisure Centre Café before heading over to Trinity Child and Family Centre.

If you see us while we're out and want to have a chat about MVH, membership, or anything happening in your community, please come and say hello!

Next Monday we'll be around the Brecon Road area. We'll share the location closer to the time through our Membership Mondays updates and directly with members.
