This hand tufted rug or wall hanging depicting a caryatid was made in either the late 80's or early 90's at a workshop that I used to live across the road from in Halifax. The idea was taken from an etching that I found in a "grammar of ornament" type book which pepicts a sculpted female figure serving as an architectural support in place of a column. 
The figure is inspired by classical Greek sculptures, specifically the caryatids found on the Erechtheion temple

I am going to work on how I can retrieve this section of today after a mistake that I made with 1 of the colours. It takes 10 times longer to unpick a mistake than hand tufting it in the first place. Going to keep the vast majority of the so not quite sure how this will work out
