Back in 2015 we had an idea in the pub – was it possible to support small UK manufacturers with production sized orders, and get people wearing and using stuff made here? We started with trousers – We found out that Hebden Bridge, where we lived, used to be known as Trousertown, because it made over 20,000 pairs of trousers a week. That’s a million pairs a year. At the time, we didn’t know much ab

out trousers, but we had been wearing them all our lives, which had to count for something. HebTroCo was launched on Kickstarter, a crowd funding website, at the end of January 2016, with the aim to sell an initial batch of 176 pairs of trousers. We sold that batch in five hours, so we quit our jobs, and committed to HebTroCo full time. It seems to be working. We’ve added denim jeans, shirts, socks, hats and other paraphernalia working with makers, mills and factories right here in the UK. Everything we do is Made Right Here and exclusive to us.

Once upon a time, the jackets you wore were always genuinely built to last. We're glad to report that our Mistle is a league away from the fast-fashion, mass-produced, throwaway culture that’s become all too common. Designed and developed with consideration by us in West Yorkshire and made to our spec in North London.

The backstory? We’ve got a few vintage European workwear pieces in our collection and we’ve used these as cues for the Mistle. The name? Well, instead of borrowing the common American term “chore jacket”, we’ve gone full Yorkshire and put our spin on it. “Mistle” is a farm outbuilding, a place to chuck your tools, and hang your work jacket, probably on a rusty peg nailed to the back of a well weathered door.

The Mistle Jacket is not reproduction fashion or old-times cosplay, it’s designed and made for the now. A contemporary response to what we’ve learnt from the old stuff hung on our walls, the stuff that was always made-to-endure. Twill is tough, but the look and feel of this one is something else. Silky soft with a slight peachy brushed feel. A slice of the good stuff.

Pick between our classic GVNR ("governor") fit and looser straight fit, the BRTR ("brother"). Both made in Britain from rigid, dark indigo selvedge denim that will soften and fade with every journey and experience. Woven from 100% cotton, cut and sewn with solid brass fly buttons and a real leather patch 🤘

Ripstop fabric does exactly what its name suggests...

The woven grid is designed to isolate snags and tears so they don’t spread and ruin the whole garment. That said, you’d have to be doing something pretty wild to get your Jack Shirt into that kind of trouble. Our choice of ripstop wasn’t really about needing armour, it was about the way it feels. The heft. The substance. Less drape, more form.

The Jack Shirt fit is cut with a relaxed, boxy shape. Finished with a camp collar that sits open at the neck, short sleeves and a straight hem. Laid back, but still smart. It’s a good shape that just works.

Ed picked a pair of his old jeans to wear in our shoot for the new Mistle Jacket. It really doesn't matter how worn they get, they just keep on looking better. One of the key perks of buying a pair of jeans from us is their durability. We had a great comment this week from a customer who's been his for six years and they still look perfect.

Let’s face it… mainstream menswear has set the bar low for jeans quality. The race to cut costs has led to thinner denim, the introduction of stretch, and a loss of construction detail in favour of a “fits-all” blueprint. We’ve taken a different path. All our jeans are made from 100% cotton raw denim, rigid, no stretch, so the fit has to come from the pattern rather than the fabric. Shape and balance are built into the design, rather than relying on stretch to do the work. No shortcuts – just proper denim, cut to fit well from the get-go. That means our jeans inherently last longer. Thicker denim, all-cotton, solid structure, strong make.

And of course, this approach extends to all the clothes we make, even that Mistle Jacket right there.
