A highlight of our recent trip to Skye was a visit to the lovely Roger and Andrea at Skye Weavers!

We have wanted to visit them for so long and although we didn’t have much time, we managed to squeeze in time to say hello.

They have an amazing set up in a stunning location, weaving beautiful throws/blankets and scarves and Andrea makes garments from their own tweed. Are we jealous? 😂
And they are the nicest people too!

We were sorry to have such a short visit but so glad to have met them both at last.

And of course we took a photo 🤗

This was so much fun! Our wonderful host Mayanne arranged with David at Radio Skye for us to do a wee spot on the afternoon show before the showing of Jimmy’s film that evening.

They’ve got a great set up there. They really put us at ease and I think we almost forgot it was live radio!

We would like to thank David and the team at Radio Skye for inviting us in to their studios on Friday ahead of the screening of Jimmy’s film. They made us feel so comfortable and we had a great time.

We’re excited to share this publicity post from Verdant Works Museum :

🧵🎥 We’re delighted to be welcoming Newburgh Handloom Weavers for a special film screening of ‘Celebrating Jimmy Hutchison’.

Usually found in a small weaving shed just along the Tay, Jimmy Hutchison is a handloom weaver alongside being one of Scotland’s most invaluable tradition bearers, as a bi-lingual Scots and Gaelic singer.

Part of TRACS - Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland’s (TradTreasures), this documentary film asks how songs shape the life of the person who sings them, through exploring Jimmy’s life and work 🧶

This screening in our Dundee mill will include a Q&A, with Jimmy joined by Erika Douglas; a fellow singer and handloom weaver. Whether you’re interested in textile heritage, Scottish culture, Gaelic, weaving, or song, this film screening is not to be missed.

That’s the Open Studios finished for another year!

It’s been a wonderful three days. Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit us. It’s been so lovely to see familiar faces and meet new ones too. So many great conversations, including swapping notes with other weavers!

Well done to everyone who had a turn of weaving on Jimmy’s Thomas Kennedy loom, including the children 🤗 several conquered their fear of weaving on the big loom and it was great to see the satisfaction on people’s faces when they saw what was achieved 🥰
We will draw names from the hat soon and find the winner of this years Open Studios blanket so keep checking for that post.
Thank you to everyone for their support, it means a lot to us.
Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone involved in Open Studios North Fife this year. It takes a great team to make it all happen, from coordinating the artists, compiling the brochure, managing the website, putting up posters and banners and much more! We are so grateful to you all 👏

A great first day of Open Studios North Fife with lovely visitors, great conversations and lots of demonstrations. Well done everyone who had a turn at weaving a piece of blanket on the loom. One lucky weaver will win the finished blanket!

Here’s the full article from the Sunday National about tonight’s film at The Cameo in Edinburgh.

Tickets are still available from www.folkcinemas.com and www.picturehouses.com/cinema/the-cameo as well as on the door. The film starts promptly at 6.15pm and there is a bar so you can get there early and mingle.
