Happy National Sunglasses Day 
 
The purpose of today is to spread awareness of the vital role that sunglasses play in protecting our eyes.

But with so many sunglasses out there offering different lenses, different levels of eye protection and plenty of jargon, we thought we’d break down three of the most important features to look for when choosing your next pair:



The most important feature. This is what actually protects your eyes from sun damage.
 
Look for sunglasses that offer 100% protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Labels should indicate “UV400” “UVA/UVB 400” or “100% UV protection,” ensuring they block wavelengths up to 400 nanometers.

Polarised lenses reduce glare from reflective surfaces like water and snow, improving visibility and comfort. This makes them great for days by the ocean, snow-sports and other outdoor activities.
 
However, due to the way they block polarised light, polarised lenses can result in seeing dimmed or sometimes completely black screens on devices like phones, cameras and even modern car dashboards. So for a more casual adventure, a non-polarised lens will still provide the same level of UV protection, without the added benefit of reduced glare.

Strong hinges, durable frames and scratch-resistant lenses make a big impact when it comes to how long they’ll stay in top condition.

Better still, look for sunglasses that have a lifetime warranty, so they last for a lifetime of adventures.
