GREEK FESTIVE COOKIES
Melomakarona are delicious honey cookies that the Greeks treat themselves to during the holidays and especially during the Christmas period. They are made from semolina into oval shaped cookies, flavoured with cinnamon and cloves drenched in honey syrup and sprinkled with ground walnuts.
Kourabides are traditional Greek almond cookie dusted with confectioner’s sugar, have a delicious flavour of toasted almonds, and a delightfully crumbly, melt-in-you-mouth texture! Kourabiedes are especially popular for special occasions, such as Christmas or baptisms or weddings though they are popular all year round

On Gifts nd Gifting

On special occasions — Christmas, birthdays, weddings, Mothers day, Fathers day Valentine — it’s a custom to gift. Underlying this custom is an important reason and a purpose: appreciation.

We gift people to show them that we are grateful for them and value the role they play in our lives. On our part, we aim to help you achieve an effective expression of your message.

We select our products whether they are food, wines or spirits on two major criteria quality of the product and quality of its presentation—a pleasure to consume and a pleasure to gift.

A HEART LIKE AN ARTICHOKE
Artichokes, one of the greatest heralds of spring in the Mediterranean, a star of its renowned diet, and a beloved ingredient of the Mediterranean cuisine in many of its vegetarian and diet recipes of its regions. Artichokes can be poached, grilled, baked, fried, boiled, braised, or stuffed

It takes quite a bit, however, to prepare artichokes for cooking. The good news is that artichokes are available preserved Sottolio-i.e. in oil from Italy where Romans reserved for the table of the aristocracy. Like everything in Italy they are preserved differently according to region.

We stock Carchiofi Interi (whole artichokes), Artichoke alla Romagna, alla Napolitana, alla Contadina (Country style) and Carciofi Grigliati (grilled artichokes). We even pack them in threes in our Pick-a-Pack selections for occasional gifting which can be complemented by a bottle of Cynar artichoke liqueur.

Artichokes are highly nutrient. They are high in protein, fibre, polyphenols and minerals but low in fat and calories. Always keep jars of the variety of your preference of marinated artichoke in your pantry to serve as an appetizer, a side dish, or to add a bit of something special to your pasta, rissoto and salad, or even a frittata.

Introducing Friarielli
Have you had the pleasure of eating friarielli? This bitter but tasty Italian leafy can be hard to find outside of Italy but we can help you taste it. We stock Friarieli in two sizes 340 gr and 750 gr. For the enthusist
Friarelli goes by several names. The Romans call it broccoletti due to its resemblance to broccoli. In Naples, locals call it friarielli while further south in the region of Puglia people refer to it as cime di rapa.
Part of the mustard family, friarielli’s bitter flavour is complemented by nutty notes. Its jagged leaves and stalks are great sources of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as iron, folate, and manganese.
As with most cruciferous vegetables, friarielli is flavourful dressed with olive oil and garlic as a salad or side dish. It is wonderful Friarielli alla Napoltana paired with fennel sausages, with pasta and in pizza.

BOUTARI GREEK WINES-A New Revelation

The Boutari family has been crafting wines from Greek varietals since 1879, when Yiannis Boutari first started producing red wines in the small northern village of Naoussa. Since that first vintage the family has become a pioneer of Greek wines. From exporting the first bottled red wine from Greece to reviving lost varietals.

Boutari now crafts wines from six different regions using varietals that are grown nowhere else in the world. In a constant quest for improvement Boutari maintains "demonstration" vineyards around Greece where local farmers are invited to learn new methods and techniques for improving their grapes.

The results are astounding: Boutari was named an International Winery of the Year by Wine and Spirits 19 times–only 5 wineries in the world received the award more times. Suffice it that Boutari’s Naoussa was the earliest expression of Xynomavro with its Grand Reserve revealing the ageing potential of this noble grape.

MEDITATION WINES: Commanderia St John
Isn’t it nice to recline back sipping a sweet wine savouring chips of a mature Grana Padano from Italy, or nibbling a handful mix of nuts and raisins or biting into a bar of dark chocolate reminiscing on joyful moments.

Can there be a better meditation wine for such glorious moments than the wine that King Richard the Lionheart called “the King of wines and the wine of Kings” when it was served to celebrate his Royal wedding party in Cyprus.

This dessert wine made from sun-dried and co-fermented white Xinesteri and red Mavro grapes is fortified and aged for two years in oak barrels. It is held by the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest named wine in the world.
